6ARC bolt action pet load?

I built my first 6 ARC gas gun last year and we have enjoyed it immensely. Loved the grendel and have been a fan of the 6.5 grendel for 8-10 years—but found the ARC almost perfect I had been using 90-100 grain bullets in the grendel anyway.

I want to do a bolt gun, something like manners compact stock, 16.5 in barrel etc…

Just put together an ARC mini. Got the barreled action from Brownells and the stock from Stocky's. Threw a Leupold on it I had on an old '06, Vortex Strike Eagle 3x18 is on its way. After using mrad FFP scopes for long range, the sfp Leupold doesn't work for me.

Bought a bunch of Hornady Black (Brownells $28 per box.) and found one box of the Eldx at the local shop. Advertised velocity was way off, tho their test barrel could be a 24 or 26….the ELDX were supposed to be 2800 fps, I got roughly 2650 according to the Labradar and roughly 2600 average with the black, with advertising being 2750. Could be the new barrel, it's also a 20".

I plan to reload using 88 grain Hammer Hunters, not sure which powder to go with, but hoping to get 2900 fps.

I don't think you will get 2900fps out of a 20" barrel, maybe I'm wrong but I don't see it done safely for sure
Factory Hornady Black avg 2850fps out of my 26.5" barrel
Hornady has load data for bolt guns and several others online also
Rob's reloading on Youtube has done quite a few videos with 6 Arc

Your barrel may speed up. Mine did after a few 100 rounds (about 75fps faster). My barrel is 24". With 90gr the fastest was 3086 fps. However, i went with 2950 fps due to better accuracy.

Following along as well. I was doing some load development for my bolt 6 ARC this weekend. I will post up the info later today hopefully

Tagging in. I have a Savage Switchback bolt and a Shaw upper AR. I have only been using CFE 223 With the bolt Switchback - 105 Berger VLD, 29.8 G CFE 223,.010 OFF LANDS, 2.280 OAL, 2662 FPS, 5 SHOT GROUP .75"

Havoc if you have Reloader 10 you might try that.
I run a 6.5 Grendel and 97 gr Absolute Hammer and got 3000 fps but groups grew at that velocity so I backed it down and got great groups at 2950 fps.If the Grendel can do it I think the 6 Arc could do it too or at least get closer.

From what I've read, Leverevolution is the go to powder for velocity in the 6 ARC, however this can be temp sensitive. CFE-223 seems to perform well also. I have yet to load for mine (gas gun), but I've got some LVR, CFE-223, Varget, and TAC to play with.

Thanks for that info, I don't have any Reloder 10, but will keep my eye out for it.

I have Varget, but I'm heading over to Unknown Munitions shortly and I'll see what they have in stock.

Primarily gas gun data here, but worth the look over.

They also have another huge thread on the 6mm ARC with plenty of data to sift through.

This is a 3 shot group at 800 yards under 2 inch using LVR i have also shot under 2 inch with factory 108 elms. I pretty much just follow the hornady load data bolt gun loads. The group was with a savage 10 rifle with a 26 inch x caliber number 3 conquered barrel.

27.5 to 28.0gr Varget with a 110 Hornady A-tip at 2.350 COAL. Jumping about .035" in a SAAMI chamber. Gets me 2750ish fps in a 28" heavy match barrel. 20-shot groups in the .6-.75 MOA range, SD around 8-10fps.

With 80-90gr bullets H4895 is not bad. For hunting (18" barrel) I ran LVR with 103 ELD-X or 90gr CX/GMX.

The ball powders get you speed if that's what you're into. They can be accurate and have low SD's, but you will absolutely have to track velocity vs. temperature if you intend to hit small targets past ~400-500yd. For 300yd and in hunting of big/medium game, speed is probably your friend in this cartridge, especially with 16-20" barrels.
