Interesting that the article said 16 was better than 4350. I had thought 4350 was the go to powder, but I couldnt find it when I starred reloading the 6CM. Read that RL19 was good so tried it. It was love at first load!
I will also have to say I really havent done much with factory loads past 100, but shoot to 970 with reloads and very happy !

Went out today to test the Berger 109 Target. The 108 ELD out did it at 300. It was windy, cold. My load for the 108 I used for the 109s is 40.4ish of RL19. The 3 ELDs went .750 and the Bergers still were under 1MOA at 2.750. Think I will tweak that load to see if I can improve the 109s. I would think they should outdo the ELDs, but .750 at 300 is a good target to strive for. Oh, and I used my Defiant action with a 7 1/2 twist barrel.

Had an unopened 8 lb IMR4831 and only a couple pounds of H4350 so thought what the heck, I ll try it. 42 grs IMR4831 with 105 AMax shooting 1/2 MOA at both 100 and 300 yds. Velocity out of 24" Lilja is 2990 fps; I m happy !!

As mentioned above by others I think the 6 CM is versatile with powders. Have personally watched friends try R16, R17, H4350, R23 and R26 all with good results!

Don't know if I posted this here or another topic, but this 6 CM is THE easiest round to load I have ever reloaded! As witnessed by many of you, it is also not picky at all with which powders it likes: it likes em all! Same for bullets and I bet seating depths. I was, however, slightly disappointed in the 109 Bergers; but I won't give up on them. Only shot 3 at 300, so that ain't much for testing. At 100, they did ok, but the 108 ELDs did better.

I have three 6CMs for predators etc. and several friends shoot em for competition. We have all settled on about 40 grs RL16 with 105 and 108 bullets.

Rl26 and 115gr Bergers running 3050fps in mine I have shot a 2 in group at 750yds with this load going to use it for deer season this year

Was just loading 50 rounds and thought, "did I say 40.4 or 41.4?" in my previous post. I was wrong ! I am loading 41.4ish grains, not 40.4ish. BTW, the 3/4 group I shot at 300 was all wind as group was horizontal. I'm (soon to be) 77 so if I can do this, it must be the rifle and round!

H4831 were my best groups but had horrible velocity spreads and lower velocity in general than H4350 or IMR 4451. I wasn't much above 2800 fps but I didn't push it tothe limits. Don't remember the exact charge but was near max according to Hornady, Sierra, and Hodgdon manuals. 4350 wasn't as tight of groups but good velocity and decent spreads, no cold bore shots outside the group, and held together out to 850 yds.

My question is to decrease velocity spread would it be better to increase or decrease powder charge. Had velocity spread issues in a 243 too and I trickle every powder charge exactly. Over the years I have had loads with single digit spreads shoot over 2 inch groups and half inch groups with about 80 fps velocity spreads like the H4831 in my 6CM.

wackinandstackin, I'd change powder. Most of the RL powders work very well, and of course, H4350, when you can get it. Fpr the 105s to 108s, go for a Vel. of about 3000. That seems to be the sweet spot.
As for exact weight, I , and several others, have gone to volume over wt. I just shot a 3/4 " 3 shot group at 300 with those kind of loads. Sorry you are having those issues with vel. Watch for ES and SD spreds if you want, but at 3000, they should be good with most RL powders.
