Did a quick work up with my Dad's new 22-250 build, went from 40 to 42gr under a 53gr Vmax. Not bad for an 18" barrel and I'm sure the groups would have been better if I wasn't shooting through a fishbowl due to the heat and the suppressor. Rounds 24 through 28 so I'm curious to to see if the cryo X-Caliber barrel will gain any speed.

I shot it in my 22-250, no groups yet but the numbers look really good. Criterion barrel 26" 1.8 twist, savage action, had the 60tmk up to 3700. Not to pressure yet at 3700.

I've used a little and plan to use some more. It won't replace the Hodgdon Extreme powders for me when I'm playing for keeps. It throws well like ball powders do while being MORE temp stable, you can fit a lot into a case due to it's density, and its one of the easier powders to find right now. It can also produce decent to very good velocities in a decent spectrum of chamberings.

There's a thread titled "New Winchester Staball 6.5 ball powder" on SnipersHide with over 650 posts comparing notes, if you don't have anything else to do today.

StaBall & primers

.22-.250, 7.7 twist, 75 Hornady HpBt, 36.5 Staball - Fiocchi LR Primer & Fed 215 Primer. Same brass, same bullet, same kind powder & weight.

About a 1/2 inch 5 shot group at 100. Shots 3 & 5 went thru same hole at 9:30 far left. Shots 3 @ 3185 fps, & 5 @ 3163 fps had highest velocities. Windy, 7-10 mph @ 3:00. Velocities slightly lower than RL 16, 34.5 loads with 75 ELDM bullet.

General Patton lost a pistol match when 2 shots went thru same hole. Two shots in one hole, far left 9:30. I lost a 100-yard reduced target NM when 2 of my .308W, 168 MK bullets went thru the same hole. The hole looks slightly elongated at 6:30.

Looks like magnum primers work better.

What is anyone using 6.5 StaBall in reloading and your results.
we purchased some when it was available just because it was available and always thinking ahead might be something we could use as a substitute for a Powder we can't find.
question for anyone do you like it and what are you reloading in?
Should we keep it or pass along to someone that truly used it and needs it.
We have some inventory that may need to be relinquished.
Thanks much
Len and Jill
243, 6.5 CM and 300 WSM so far. Sure do like it for heavy 115 grain 243's and 143-150 grain 6.5 My 300 wsm is a brand new gun and have been shooting light loads just to break in the barrel (hopefully)

Hey Hugnot,
Just wondering if you could reach the same velocity with the LRP if the group would be as good? That's good shooting with a breeze also.
Take Care

^ good point, worth a try. A previous shoot with the same load & Fiocchi LRP but at temperatures about 20 degrees higher gave a good 4 shot 1/2-inch group but 1 flyer & a much larger velocity spread. Velocities were almost 100 fps less.

My goals are to develop a .22-.250, 75 grain load for winter yotes & summer rodents. Staball is available!

Target dot measures .75 inch.
