6.5 Sherman Shortmag Load Data

Here is a load that is working pretty well. 59 grains RL26 behind a 150 matrix at around 3100'. Shot 2 1/2" at 880 yards.......Rich

Very nice Rich. I got out and tested my cold bore shots. Spent the night out at my 'range' with the dog and rooftop tent. Woke up with the dog dish frozen right up. Shot a 3 shot group and cold bore was right in there. Super happy.

Also pulled off another one hole group. Didn't expect that at all. I shot 3 and could only see the one hole (100 yards) so I shot 2 more, still one hole. This was at the centre target. Just to make sure I wasn't dreaming and that somehow my bullets weren't blowing up or something totally bizarre, I shot a 6th shot at another triangle on the same paper. It was 1/4" low/right. So I know I did have 5 shots in one hole. Interestingly , this was 60.5 gr N570. .5 gr higher than what I usually shoot. Gonna have to explore this more.

Looks like you have that thing tuned up! Was that with the 140 Bergers?

Yeah. I can't get the 140 gr Berger hybrids so I use the 140 gr hunting VLDs. I ended up notching the bottom on my feed ramp to get full use of my mag without the binder plate. I was worried with the 40 degree shoulder that it would be a pain to get to feed properly from the mag. No issues once a few simple modifications were done. The plastic follower in the mag had a step in it. I blended that a bit and it's nice and slick now. I had a few 130 Berger VLD's leftover so I put in 62.5 gr N570. It's not a compressed load from what I could tell, but pretty close. Curious what velocity it'll get.

Well I am going wolf hunting the middle of March. Going to use my 6.5 SS and the ELD-X 143 grain bullets. Hopefully I will get a chance at one.
It's a area that hasn't been hunted yet and is difficult to get to.
I will report back on the outcome.

When you get'em all killed there, I have a couple more spots where they have absolutely RUINED the elk hunting!!........Rich

Went to the range to try RL26 in my SS. 60 grains gave 3195 fps. Left plunger depression in brass. Went down to 59 grains. Gave 3144 fps with a ES of 10 fps.
Both loads using the 143 ELD - X. 22 inch barrel.

That is darn good velocity from a 22" barrel. Just for the other guys info, Rob seems to have a very tight barrel compared to mine. He got the same velocity (less 5-10') that I got with 4" more barrel but I load 62 grains at 3302 before I get an extractor mark. He is shooting a Broughton and mine is a Lilja which are known to b tight?
