6.5 creedmoor to 270 wsm

If I were going to do it, I'd have the smith modify the stock and action for a wyatts extended mag box as well. 270 WSM, given the right bullet will give better ft lbs on game for sure over a 6.5 CM within useful ranges.
WHY ?
Sell the Creedmoore and buy yourself a 270... Lots of choices and CHEAPER in the long run.
The Creedmoore should sell easily.
You might consider looking at the 6.5 PRC ~ it was Hornady's improvement on their own Creedmoore cartridge.
Ruger offers the PRC in the Hawkeye Long Range Target Rifle. NICE, without the custom price.

I'm curious about the cost effectiveness of him doing this to a new rifle instead of getting most of his money back and starting from scratch. He will most likely just be able to use the action and have to replace everything else when, to me, it would be more cost effective to start from scratch.
My plans are to have the smith open up the bolt face when the action is trued and use a factory ejector. Then bye a new mag box and follower. Have a new barrel installed and use my existing bottom metal, stock and trigger.

Here's a standard 700 bolt opened up to a mag bolt face with a Sako extractor installed.

How much does it cost to have the bolt opened up with M16 extractor? Here's a link to PTG for a bolt body. http://pacifictoolandgauge.com/remi...n_diameter_075/2699-choose_fluting-no_fluting
I would think considerably cheaper then a new bolt. The smith already has to chuck up the bolt to true the face so he could easily open it up. I wasn't going to install a M16 extractor, but I was quote 125.00 the last time I checked.

Why? Because he asked if he could take the current rifle and rebarrel to 270 WSM. That's why. If that's what he would want to do, it would make sense to open up to wyatts. He didn't ask if he should sell it and buy another rifle. I answered for what he asked for vs trying to answer something he didn't ask.

As much as I dislike PTG I would buy one of their bolts and sell yours. Remington's are notorious for needing the firing pin bushed as well. Keep your firing pin and just sell the bolt body. Dan at Accutig in Alaska can weld on a handle and time it if you buy a 2 piece bolt. In the long run it will be a better deal because you can get a M-16 extractor, you won't have to bush the firing pin and the bolt handle will be timed. All of the problems with the factory bolts. By the time you open the bolt face and install another extractor plus true the bolt your right about the same cost.

I have a 6.5 Creedmoor Remington 700. Not happy with the performance of this cartridge. Rather then buying another action would it be possible to Rebarrel this action to a 270 wsm?
If it were me I would look moor to the 7mmWSM. The 7mm WSM has more bullet selection hits harder and is inherently accurate. I have the 7mm WSM in a model 70 Winchester and it shoots awesome. For deer and antelope I shoot 150 gr Hornady ELD-X going over 3200 fps and for elk and bear I use 175 gr ELD-X at just over 3000 fps. Plenty of rifle for everything.

I currently have a 7mm Remington Magnum so it doesn't sense to me to build a 7mm WSM. Thank you for the reply.

I would just drop it off and have him make it a 260. He will have to remove one thread from the barrel but it's significantly cheaper than doing a 270 WSM.

Is there just no love for the 270 WSM? I have had multiple recommendations to chamber it into multiple calibers but the 270 WSM. I look at the ballistics of this cartridge and seen the effectiveness and it was a no brained for me. I'm confused?

It's not so much people don't like 270's but that there are so few high BC bullets available for them. Remember, this is a long range shooting/hunting forum, so bullet BC is something most care about around here.

As for having the bolt face opened up and a M16 type extractor installed, I've had it done before and it turned out perfectly fine, not to mention, I personally think going to a M16 type extractor is definitely an upgrade.

Also, I have a safe full of Rem 700 based semi customs and I've never had to have a firing pin bushed.
