What speeds should I be getting out of my creedmoor with 147 grain eld's. It's a savage model 12 26" barrel. I have done load development this winter using 40.1 grains of H4350 and have come up with a great accurate load with a speed of 2690 at -15c. I got my first hit today at 1018 yards but it has warmed up since I did my load development and now I'm getting pressure signs at 0c. I have another great proven load at 39.7 grains of H4350 but I'm concerned that I will keep getting pressure signs the more it keeps warming up. I have another nice accuracy node at 38.4 grains and speeds of around 2560ish but I feel that that is too slow. What speeds are to slow for the 6.5 and 147gn. I don't want to switch from H4350 because it is readily available here.

A lot of it depends on how long the throat is. I have a real long throat in mine and I get 2850 with H4350. My barrel is 28 inches and my boat tail junction sits .050 up from the neck shoulder junction. I only shoot the 147 eldm in mine and it has a pretty long bearing surface so if you don't have a long throat it's going to eat up alot of powder space.

I normally don't use the magazine on my hunting rifles. I guess I'm so used to shooting compatition with single shots. Besides if i miss on the first shot i probably would miss the second time too.

Sounds like "normal" for 147's and that amount of H4350. Out of a 22 Inch tube I get 2640 fps with 42.5 of H4350 which is my back-up load for F class when I run out of Reloader 26 which I load to 2800 fps. Neither load shows pressure in my rifle and both are about .5 moa

So at what ambient temperatures are you getting these speeds. All my testing and shooting with this load has been below freezing and my speeds vary. Here's a picture of this load speeds and temperatures that I have taken with my chronograph.

I've shot the 147 eldm out of a 22" ruger amer. Predator at 2750 with RL26 and H Superformance, 2.835"

And a 26" Xbolt HCLR at 2880 with H Superformance. Same load but longer COL at 2.882"
Starline large primer brass w cci 200s. Tries Alpha Precision brass but had to back down a .5 grain as capacity was t same and was seeing pressure.
These are averages from several sessions and different temps.
