6.5 bullets on game

Our 257Robts, which is only .007" smaller than the .264", has taken a lot from caribou to elk but personally, I wouldn't take a 6.5 to Africa.

The undeniable 6.5 fever has developed into something very good as far as great new cartridge offerings. The first of that caliber I shot was when a friend offered to let me shoot his old 264WM at the range using his last two bullets. Two in one hole.

Last year I used a 140 Elite hunter on an Axis at 377 yards. 2770 MV, great accuracy but it didn't open. Trying Hammer Hunters this year.

Ha! Then I guess there's a whole lot of cancer medicine on sale/clearance at most every reloading outlet I see!
From the ballistics data I've seen, I'd go with the PRC.

The best thing about the 6.5CM is the bullet manufacturers have come out with a lot of new projectiles because of the "fever"
Guess I'll have to get one someday but I have my doubts that I'll like it better than .264WM or a good old 6.5 Swede......someone once said "there is nothing new under the sun...."
Lots of critters killed with a 30-30 or a 270.....

Alot of concern is placed on accuracy when it comes to a bullet but not much on the bullets effect on game or at least not written about. What is everyone's experience with let's say Berger 140 elite Hunter, Hornady 143 eldx, Nosler accubond LR on game animals?

The 6.5 is an AWESOME ROUND! If your load is worked, and you can shoot; it'll KILL ANYTHING thT walks N. America DEAD! Theosmithjr

The plan was to run the 147gr Hornady ELD-M's for the fall hunt,,, but the Nosler 140gr PT's came on sale...

53.3gr of H1000 is Clocking 2910 ft-per seconds,,, Nosler claims that they will still expand at 1800 ft-per seconds,,, I'll limit my shots to 200 to 300 + yards,,, a fraction over 2400 for Velocity at that range,,, 1800 ish ft-lbs energy give or take...

They deffinatly give out the """Wack""" sound feed back when they plant them selves into the clay back stop...

Back from BC!

51" Canada Moose - 68yds with a 6.5PRC 143eldx dropped in his tracks.Shot was high shoulder and never found the bullet.

9-1/2" Mountain Goat - 603yds Same load as above. Shot was off my tripod in about a foot of mushy moss and I had to lay it across my swaro bino adapter. 3 consecutive shots and he never moved/flinched. Spotter kept telling me I was low, high, right but I knew there was no way I missed three in a row. He looked again after the 3rd shot and saw blood pouring from his nose and the billy stayed standing strong for a few minutes until he walked a bit up the mountain and just disappeared. A 3hr hike across the ravine and up the mountain later we found him in this crevice. In the process of caping we found three shots in about a 3-4" circle through the heart and lungs, those guys are resilient to say the least! All three shots were through and through into the side of the mountain, those impacts into the rocks are what he was calling misses!!!! Massive internal hemorrhaging internally and the offside shoulder was mangled pretty good at all the exists.

Overall very satisfied with the Copper Creek loaded 143s and I will stick with them going forward.

I have used the 140 gameking at a 2600 mv out to 200+ on hogs, bobcat And other varmints with very good results. Just picked up a boatload of 140 hotcore flatbase bullets and will try them in february down south. For more hogs hopefully a yote, ect

I have been luck to harvest several various animals with the 6.5 at ranges from 70 yards out to 700 plus. Hornady eldx and Nosler Accubond LR are fantastic hunting bullets. I know many hunters hunt with the Berger line of bullets. I am not looking for a debate on this but I have seen way too many wounded animals with well placed shots with the Berger's. I will never hunt with that bullet. I will shoot only steel with the Berger! Sorry gentlemen can't beat Hornady or Nosler for hunting!
