6.5-300 Why mag

Seems to be a lot of concern about the life of someone elses barrel around here lately.
:D
I am encouraged by the care for our fellows in arms and the life of the barrels of their rifles that is shown on this forum.

Like cacsrx1, I feel one admonishment of barrel longevity is enough for each thread.

Dear lord.... enough about these proprietary wonderchildren.
Build a rifle in a production chambering...
there are MORE than enough as it sits.
I have a 6.5x284, and two 26 Noslers... the only other id really like is the 6.5 Caracano... why? Because.

You know, all calibers started life as wildcats before being SAAMI spec'd...Just saying. :D

Also, 6.5 Carcano? That's an oddball caliber. But hey...If it floats your boat, row with it. gun)

Some folks who are new to guns, might not understand powder capacities vs bore diameters, and the physical effects they have on a barrel. So, I feel it is good to let them know what they are getting into instead of them building it, and then being ****ed off that it only got 750 rounds of barrel life. It's called being helpful.

Id gather she's fairly close to 26 Nosler performance... probably a tad bit better barrel life. I've heard 1200 down to 300 rounds with the 26 Noslers. Don't really care in all honesty. I doubt either of mine will ever reach 500 rounds each in the next 5 years.

Barrel life calculators I have found online seem to be estimating right around 440 rounds.... still would love to know if they used basic numbers on temp/pressure/etc.... or did they factor any other variables in there (shot string average/neglect,etc)
gun)
The 6.5s are making one heck of a play in the US. Weatherby is doing something right by bringing it to the table....

IMO, right play, wrong parent case. They should have used the .257/.270/7mm Wby case for a 6.5. It would have been much more efficient.

Agreed....
That case would be about the PERFECT compliment for that bullet diameter...
Then again... when has any one of us known Weatherby to be efficient in any respect?
30-378 anyone?
:D
