Hello all. I am going to rebarrel my 300 rum to this round. Can anyone give me some more info on the cartridge . First hand experience with it?

Better get 2 barrels cut with the same reamer at the same time... I can't imagine barrel life being very long for that caliber.

Well I imagine it can't be to terrible, weatherby is selling it now but I can't see giving them 2500+ for a rifle when I have a tricked out action and a Smith that will help me out. I wonder when there will be some load data out there

I'm sure that it won't be 1000rds maybe tho if a person takes care of the barrel it will make many hunting seasons

My 264 Win Mag lasted 640 rounds of sub MOA accuracy at long ranges then went to a 3 MOA rifle over three shots later. A 26 caliber round with the Weatherby case won't be any better. The popular 6.5x.284 round burns much less powder and gets about 800 rounds of sub MOA performance at long range.

What you get will depend on when it shoots worse than you want it to.

Ya the barrel life is not an issue I want a 6.5 that's going to shoot flat as a lazer beam. I think the why is going to bethe answer

Take your pick if barrel life isn't an issue... .26 Nosler, 6.5 STW, 6.5-300 Wby, .264 WinMag, 6.5 RUM, 6.5-300 WinMag, etc...

If I was to pick one of the 6.5 super mags, I would go with the .264 WinMag...But that's my personal preference.

A 6.5-300 win mag would be great too but I need info for that too. I think Smith has a reamer for that also

Al Hoyer died in 1970. For more than a decade prior to that he became well known for
building 6.5x300 weatherbys. Today nobody around here uses them and they havent
for many years. But every so often its a good thing to reinvent the wheel.

Someone suggested a 6.5X284 barrel will last longer. I would bet against it because of the short neck. In fact I would bet, based on Hornady research, the big Weatherby will last as long as the 6.5X284 due to its long neck.

These are not our grandad's .30-30. The idea the barrel will wear out should be irrelevant. After all, the actions are threaded! What's the problem? You're putting a new barrel the action now. My Weatherby is on its forth barrel. My Savage is on its third barrel. My Klienguenther is on its third barrel. Part of the fun of life is to fire a gun so much it needs a new barrel.

If a flat shooting 6.5 is wanted; look at the 6.5 Sherman. Either the long or short action. I shoot the long action and can get over 3300 fps with 140 Bergers. Compare that speed to some of the larger cases you are thinking about, and see what kind of velocity difference there is. The Sherman will come very close to matching the speeds of a 264 WM but with a lot less powder. My rifle maxed out with 64 gr for example. I only have a few hundred rounds through mine but barrel life is suppose to exceed 2000 rounds.

Dear lord.... enough about these proprietary wonderchildren.
Build a rifle in a production chambering...
there are MORE than enough as it sits.
I have a 6.5x284, and two 26 Noslers... the only other id really like is the 6.5 Caracano... why? Because.
