6.5-06 Retumbo Quickload request or info

The older R-22 and R-19 are more temperature sensitive than R-23. Read Alliants info on website.
My most recent 6.5 is a 6.5-06 Ackley. I just can't stand looking at a 17 degree shoulder. I like R-26 with 140 gr but for deer a 130 gr AB is hard to beat. Here is a 140gr quickload with Nosler AI cases 26inch:

How many 6.5-06 shooters are out there? How well do you like the cartridge? What are some of the best bullets and powders that you've had good luck with?
I have built 2 6.5x280ack imp for customers and they do well with retumbo and norma 217 but 217 not as temp stable. I am not going to touch the bullets. So many choices.

Yes,,, mine likes the H4831 and H1000 since RL powders are far and few up here in the far North of you folks...

Be wize to the IMR & H 4350 powder charges for the 6.5 A-square / 06,,, they will work,,, but when you reach max close to the ceiling you'll see extractor marks in the case heads...

My self that is,,, I have a 140gr bullet load using IMR & H 4350,,, but I tapped it down 1 1/2 grains from max to save my brass,,, ruffly 2720 to 2740 ft-per seconds with the 140's,,, good enough if I had to resort to it...

The H4831 & SSC 4831 are my real fav back up powder... H1000 is my main...

If your having problems getting H1000 or the RL,,, as one of the folks on this thread if they have any in their area and buy Two 8 lb jugs...

Get the business contact and pay for it with free shipping to your door...

Someone in your USA has it,,, maybe they can look in their area to save you time...

Just a thought,,, I'd help you out,,, but I'm North of the 49th and there ain't no shipping across the line with out endless paper work...

Good luck as it will all work out,,,

PS: I agree,,, the RL Powders make the 6.5 rock,,, H1000 is a go to...

140/ 149 fr bullets at 2880 ft-per seconds using 53.3gr of H1000... You will have to ladder test your own rifle to find the best group,,, and pay attention to neck donuts / brass flow,,, those donuts """could""" affect your shooting groups..

I'm sure you have all the brass prep tools if your doing a 6.5 A-square / 06,,, you'll learn aloooot when you get it going,,, be keen to neck run-out...

PM me if you need more tricks of the trade,,, Pal Don

Cheers from the North

Here in the South, our weather is moderate, so no complaints with the R#22.

Question for all of us is as new powders come out, does the old powder work better fertilizing Rose bushes, Boxwoods, or Flower bulbs?

I tried it in LR target shooting for a yr. Wasn't my cup of tea. Bit I think a great hunting rd. I ran retumbo in QL for you the other day, dropped it, not sure what your desired performance is, but your 3.5" COAL really dumps pressures in QL if other parameters are close.
I would not hesitate looking at slightly faster powders, H1K, RL 25-26, Norma MRP lines

Actually, dumping half lbs in a baggie and pitching it in a fire pit way more fun, don't exceed 3/4 of a pound though with slower powders though, tends to spread out more than faster powders, lol

I shoot five 6.5 calibers and 6.5-06 is tied for first place with 6.5-300 Wby. I'm giving up a couple hundred fps with the '06, but with a lighter bullet I can achieve what I want.

I think I now have a decent plan for starting to load this cartridge with Retumbo, thanks to all of you folks.

I'm firm on using an extreme, or temperature insensitive powder, and from some comments on here I've done some research on Reloader 23, it does look like another good powder to try out. However load data for it and this cartridge are basically non-existent, I've even called Alliant with no success. Can anymore point me in the right direction or give me some advice using RL 23 to cone up with some starting data?
