Awesome Thank You250 grain TSX is awesome on deer. But, I typically use the 300 grain XTP at "ruger only" loading. The projectile expands to over .70"View attachment 642225

I just ordered some Hornady XTP thank you300 grain hollow point from Hornady or Sierra are good options. If you want a better chance of an exit wound , the Hornady 350 flat point is a great option.
The XTP requires trimming your case down an additional .060", since the bullet tip makes it too long. Standard is 2.100"I just ordered some Hornady XTP thank you
Nope that is the FTX, the XTP is a flat profileThe XTP requires trimming your case down an additional .060", since the bullet tip makes it too long. Standard is 2.100"
I didn't want to ruin a bunch of 45-70 cases by trimming them short, so I got a pair of scissors and cut the tip off all mine. It didn't affect the accuracy at all. And I didn't do a stellar job cutting them off straight.
After cutting the tips, it resembles the 410 grain Sub-X bullets from Hornady. These 410's, in my Henry Mod X shoot very well subsonic.
Right! My bad. Google mislead me. I Googled XTP and it thought I was dyslexic and showed me FTX.Nope that is the FTX, the XTP is a flat profile
