.375 Ruger... What if???

No, the 308 Norma is based on the Win Mag casing or the H&H. I forget which, but the 338 Norma is based on the 416 Rigby. It has a case length of 2.500". It has velocities of 2760fps out of a 24" barrel shooting the 300SMK's.

338 Norma Review

It's a pretty good article. The 300 Jazz the 338 Norma as a parent case. It was developed to fit in a standard length long action and compete with and against the Lapua with 10 less grains of powder.

The Ruger might show the same characteristics. Like you, it is just a guess without actually building it.

Wow! Very interested in the 338-375 for rebarreling project for my 338wm on a Mark X action. Mag box length for my action is 3.390 which makes me wonder if the 300gr smk will fit without seating it too deep. would anyone have a fair estimtate what the coal would be with this combo?
Can't wait for someone to get one built and have some real world info. Always like someone else to be the ginny pig..:D

The COAL will depend on your throat and the ogive of the bullet. The best way to estimate it without having a loaded case would be to load the same bullet you are interested in into another 30 cal case and measure it's COAL and apply the difference in case lengths. A good smith should be able to help you out with picking a throat design.

You could get some good custom dies from Hornady for a reasonable price.

Mark,

Thanks for the information. I'll give that a try.

Howdy Duane,

I was stationed at Malmstrom from 88-94. I've been living in the Bozeman area since 2000. I was in Sand Coulee just this last spring to buy some Bore Tech Eliminator from the gunsmith up there. I was up in GF for the day on some business.
