Just picked up a 338 win mag and have some 213 grain hammers coming for. Thought I might try the 250 grain bergers in it too. Any of you have any loads that have worked for you with the 250 grain bergers?

Is it legal to shoot anything other than 250gr Partitions from a 338wm?!

I had good results with 210 TTSX and I'm going to try 230gr ELDX factory loads- if I can get near their advertised velocity I'll be a happy camper.

Seems like lots of guys are running RL19 for 225 and 250s

I think that the Hammer's would be a good choice....though my wife likes the 225 TTSX's in her rifle! We're using RL 22 and getting 2950 fps, from a 24" barrel. These are pushed pretty hard, appear to work well in her rifle.....and kill stuff really well! Though her longest shot has only been 400 yards (plus or minus a couple). memtb

I haven't had to load them in a Win but have ran them slow to fast in a RUM, I have seen a couple in other Wins and it was spectacular on elk! The 250 Berger is my go to in a 338!

I've had a 338 win mag for a while now and haven't even shot it yet. Hoping to get around 2750-2800 with the 250 Berger's in a 24" Bbl. The 213 hammers would be a great option as well. I have an archery elk hunt coming up in a week, I'm focusing on that now. After Il be itching to do some testing with the 250s and il post the results.

I used 4831 with the Berger 250 in my 338 win mag 24". Even seating long, I ended up about 2600 for the best load. Silly accurate but slow. I shot one deer and the performance wasn't good. Ran after the first shot about 300yds across a field. Stopped before going in the woods and I hit him again. Than went about another 30-40 yds into the wood line. I used the rest for target practice and went to Hornady. The 200 sst worked great and now I have a 230 eldx load. Haven't gotten to try it yet hopefully this fall.

TRG65 has the same luck that I do with a .338 WM. I tried the 250's but I don't think a .338 Winchester has quite enough powder capacity to get them moving fast enough. My rifle has a 26" barrel and I spent a fair amount of time, bullets, and powder trying to get 250 Berger's up past 2750 but was completely unable. I tried Reloder 19, 22, and 25 and H4350, H4831, H1000, and IMR4831. That same rifle will shoot 225 Speer Spitzers at 3,000fps with IMR4831 and will get 225 Nosler Accubonds up to about 2925 so it's not really a slow barrel. I think the Hammers would be great. I've just started messing with some 225 Sledgehammers and IMR4831 will get me up around 2935 with good groups and a very low ES.

What twist rates are you guys shooting, in the 338 RUMS's even when we run them down in the 2900 fps range they are absolutely devastating even to ranges well beyond 1000 yards on lighter game, even impacts down to 1600 fps have done excellent!!

This load I was jumping 250 grain Berger elite hunters .020 you can see the powder charge that worked for me

Don't remember the twist I have. Its been several years since the rifle was put together. stabilization wasn't a problem. I was jumping them .020". Mine was a 24" barrel. I had heard great things about them, and from a bigger cartridge like the RUM, Edge, or Lapua, I think they would work. I can push the 230 ELD 2869, and the 200 was well over 2900. However, I just couldn't get there with accuracy with the 250 Berger. I had shot a 250 Accubond the year before and it wasn't moving much over 250 either. But it did a great job on an elk. On the deer I shot with the Berger, I didn't hit bone. If I had, then it might have worked better. I emailed Berger and they do use a thicker jacket with the 338 than on the smaller rounds. I think that (and no bone) was the issue that I ran into.
