338 snipe-tac project (338-408imp)

BD408,

Your well ahead of me in schedule of your project but I will let you know when bullets get in the air. Hopefully not to much longer!!

Have a good day,

BD408, I checked out your sites too. Nice work, everything Centre Punch said. What grabbed me was your WYO ATV trip!! Man that looked like a blast. I'm a relatively new ATV owner/operator and that looked like something right up my ally. Great scenery and what looked like really fun ride.
Thanks for sharing.........

MT4Xfore:

Thanks! I have lots of fun doing the custom work, only part time! The 4 wheeler trip is real fun, we go again this year, July 2nd...anyone is welcome to tag along. We will be out there all week.

I am going to take a tour through the Hornaday plant next week, order some custom dies for the SnipeTac. Also looking into the New Hydraulic form dies they offer, no fire forming. Under 130.00! I guess you fill the case with water, insert into the special die that matches your chamber, smack the die with a hammer several times and the case comes out formed. No more wasted primers and powder.

BD408,

Could you get me some information on that forming die, sounds like a hell of a system. As you know I could also use that little jem!!

If you prefer a private e-mail would be good.

Thanks,

Kirby Allen(50)

Fiftydriver:

That was my thought exactly! I have several of the SnipeTacs on order and the guys dont want to mess with making the brass. I'll get the info next week.

Thank you, look forward to the information. $130 seems awful cheap but I guess you take it when you can get it /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif!! Doesn't happen often in this business!!

Norhman:

I have only put several loads through the crono, 250grn & 300grn sierra match kings, 250's were showing 3550fps.

The 300grn starting loads were 3200fps
The highest load i had was 3425fps. These were H-BMG50 powder.

I tried some 200grn nosler BT's, they shot very good, one hole groups at 100yds, but there is too much free bore as the reamer is set for the 300MK bullet, this will result in the cases wrinkling. They were running 3900fps.

I havent tried the 350grn bullets yet, that will be my next test. Im hopefull for 3200fps.

You could plug these numbers into your balistic calculators to see what the drop is.

The barrel length is 33"
At 3200fps (300MK) with a 500yd sight in, you add 48 clicks to get to 1000 zero.

1000yd enery is 2929 foot pounds.

BD -- what barrel and brass are you using??...i saw a 36" tube top out at a little over 3300 (with 300's) with h5010

I have a Barney Lawton bbl on this gun 11.25 twist 33"
IMR 5010 didnt give me the best vel or groups, i tried it as test loads and fire forming. I want to try some of the US869.

It's all coming together rather well,
I have the stock bedded and ready for final finishing. Rifle weight with out scope is 13.5#

Next to build a set of reloading dies, Full length sizer, Neck sizer and seater die.

I have a Hydraulic form die on order from Hornady, that will remove the extra work required for fire forming.

After all that.... BOOM BOOM! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
