338 or 375 EnABELR or alternative cartridge for ELR hunting

I have a 338 Allen Express (338 Lapua Improved) based off a Stiller TAC 338 action. With a 26" barrel and 104 gr. of RL33, the rifle easily drives a 300 gr. Berger at 2950 fps. If you are willing to go 30" on your barrel, I suspect you will hit/exceed your 3000 fps goal at the muzzle.
Thanks - looks like lapua imp or norma imp is the way to go to push 3K.

September of last year, Field and Stream ran an article on MDT making a 88" rifle barrel chambered in 308 Win to test velocity and corresponding changes as they shortened it. Very interesting read.
Google it, it is worth the 5 minutes.

Apparently also on Facebook and other magazines as well.

Mr. Lilja's artical on barrel length vs velocity was really interesting, also.
He said you could actually see the barrel whip! He also stated that his test barrel was "suprisingly" still very accurate.

338 Rum AI with a .15-.20 of free bore will drive a 300 grain OTM at 2775 with 91 grains of H1000. For hunting purposes It will drive a 265 ABLR at 2950 and fit inside a Wyatt's box , sectional density of the 265 is .331. Both loads get to 800 yards in a second or less, carry enough energy to kill anything on planet earth out to 1250 yards and stay supersonic to over a mile. With 256 grain Warner tool flatliners the 338 edge is supersonic to over 2200 yards. If I were building a primary hunting rig for browns bears and the occasional ELR non competition I would go 338 RUM +P. If you need to you could shoot factory ammo in a pinch. Oh wait a minute? That is what I did! The above numbers are from a 27" Bartlein barrel. It will out perform the Lapua with 250s. You don't need more. It is a legit 1000 yard killing machine. With the right loads it will stay supersonic to over 2600 yards and can be built on a standard Remington action. If you run the tubb's ring in the Flatliners and twist it 1/8 you could see good accuracy beyond 3000 yards. I don't know why you would want more in a hunting rifle. The 338 RUM, Edge and 375 RUM are perfect for what you want to do.

FYI there is not a guide in his right mind that is going to let you shoot a big brown beyond 450 yards. There is nothing worse than to have to go in the bush after a wounded grizzly or brown bear. It is just a hole lot of teeth with a bad attitude and when he decides he is coming there ain't a thing in the world you can do to stop him. You just need to pray you see him before he sees you. Moose are just big and ethically I don't know many guides who would let you shoot one of them beyond 500. If you want to shoot caribou or deer or elk beyond that range knock your self out, but not moose and bears, there is just to much that can go wrong and a wounded bear or moose is not something to play with. The Rums and edge are more than enough and can be built in a great manageable hunting rig that can be used for ELR, just my experience and opinion. Wishing you the best!

Thanks I'll look into the 338 RUM +P but missing out on lapua brass would be ... tragic. And I 100% agree, I'd be curious to know how many guides even let their clients shoot past 300 yards. Then again, they would probably, or definitely, look at a client like he's crazy for bringing a tripod and a heavy rifle to boot. At any rate, I won't have a guide - I'll be an Alaska resident soon enough.

Running Nosler brass in mine with zero issues. It is good brass.
