338 Norma Reloading Data

Like sheep shape, 300 otm and retumbo deadly combo.Taken probably 20+ animals with this in two different rifles, up to moose size. I did take a 6x6,w/BD 240 gr. if I recall for grains

Just out verifying my 300 grain Berger OTM load before next weekends 1000 yard shindig.

26", 1:9.3 Bartlein tube.

88.8 grains of Retumbo and 2.753" base to ogive.

Sounds about right. I'm just about out of 7977 and will be switching powders when it's gone. I've got the usual suspects on the shelf so we'll see how it goes.

@SheepShapeAK; do you mind me asking about where you started seeing pressure with the 300 Berger? Any chance you tested for pressure with Retumbo and H1000?
I never worked up to pressure once I had it shooting decent. I've used this load at 1000 yards for our club events and it still performs.

I should try and push it to see where I see pressure. I'll have some time this summer and give it a try.

Thanks for the replies CodyMac and SheepShape.

I'm just trying to get an idea of about where the cutoff should be. My 338 Norma is an improved design so I know I can get more than standard out of it but I don't want to push too hard. My action is very robust at 1.45" diameter, .800 bolt with huge lugs and barrel tenon is 1.35" so I'll probably be in the 80k plus range before seeing pressure signs at all. I'm thinking if I hit about 2900 fps with the 300 grain Berger that's plenty of steam while still well below any danger zone

Dang. With that setup I bet you could hit 3000 fps.

I should try some N570 with it.
