338 Edge vs 338 RUM differences

What trouble? Sizing your readily available 300 RUM brass? 338 RUM brass is not something that is usually readily available at any hunting store. 338 rum with 300 grain A-Tip 2662 FPS. 338 Edge with 300 grain A-Tip 2891. 229 FPS faster. These numbers are using H1000 with ADG brass, win mag primers.

you quite possibly have the slowest 338 RUM on the planet ..or its a pistol... 🤣

the 338 lapua, 338 edge and 338 rum are basically ballistic triplets

Do you load for speed or accuracy? I'm sure I can run it up and not have the accuracy I want. And they are not ballistic triplets. Why would Shawn develop a identical round as the RUM? Why would he not use the 338 RUM brass? Not the same. Close but the 338 RUM is the slow one in this race.

Shawn Carlock did the edge on the 300 rum because it first of the Rums ,,, he saw and opportunity too have a kick *** 338 and a standard mag bolt face, the 338 rum didn't come out until after he and many others necked up the 300 too 338, 358 , 375, 416 458..
I load everything the same way .. specially on big cases I've witnessed and shot 1000's of rounds through 338 rums, 338 edge's 338 lapua's 338imp 338 snipetac's 33XC's 338-378 Bee's just too name a few.. 1000's of rounds and they all tell me the same thing .. they will run slow and be accurate but what I and most other individuals have witnessed with big cases is the closer you get too there top end node they really come on and shine, lower Es's tighter and more consistent groups etc.!! same with big 7's big 30's big 375's
and there is not a 200 fps difference in either 3 when loaded correctly and to their most potential using identical components,.. when you have the ability too have all 3 at the same time its pretty easy too have information based on facts. they are ballistic triplets .. pick one have fun with it

EH338 if you have a load for the RUM that will get a 300 grain bullet to 2900 FPS please share and help a brother out. I can not get my 338 RUM to that speed with the 300gr. I have ran the RL33, N570 and currently H1000 with the best accuracy results. RUM 26 inch Carbon barrel weighs 8.8 with scope. Edge 30 inch barrel weighs 12.5 lbs with scope.

My 338 rum with 28" barrel moves 300eh at 2800fps(92.6 gr Nn570) VERY accurately zero psi. Topped out at 94gr 2894 w/ ejector marks. Would the edge get me to the next node of 2900? Yes but it'd be a warm load all the same with decreased barrel life. I'm very happy with my rum, feel no need for bigger 338, in fact in process of building a smaller 338 for pushing 250 elite hunter only. Based off a prc case.

A Wyatt's 4'' box is a must or single feed.

This thread has lots of info;
I ran mine as a single feed.
My other rifle in 338-416 Rigby Improved is also a single feed.
I could mill them for a longer box and fabricate one, but you can't feed from a mag where I shoot anyway.
My Edge with 300g OTM bullets topped out just over 2800fps even with the +P chamber, best I ever got out of it with HBN coated 300g OTM was 2848fps.
It appeared to me at the velocities obtainable that the 285g class of bullets were optimum. You really needed a faster cartridge for the 300g class bullets.

Cheers.

Lol just so we are all clear. Your edge is a 30" barrel (which is 200 fps faster) than your rum with a 26" barrel?

My 26" RUM can push 300gr atips just a hair under 2800 fps without pressure...I bet it could get to 2900 fps if my barrel was 30".

Highdrum is right. Nodes are almost always 90-100 fps apart. No matter the cartridge. I have a 338 Edge and it either shoots 2915 with N570 or 2820 with H1000. 28" barrel. The ADG 338 Edge brass is about 114 grains volume. I have also had a 338 NMI (110) grains volume. The Lapua brass is tough and she ran the same nodes as the edge. The pressure difference for same speeds could easily be the difference in the barrel.
