338 300gr Berger OTM for hunting

I have only used the 285 eldm on steel and paper. Good to know! đź‘Ť
I've used them on game as well and spun a bear over at 250 yards DRT. The 285s punch a one inch hole wide x 11/16" deep in 3/4" steel at 300 yards...any doubt they won't kill an animal is misplaced! Just me! Or maybe I just got the only good batch! Hornady hasn't let me down in 49 years of reloading...but yes there are many new options available! Should mention 338 Lapua is what I'm using.

I have a 338 Lapua as well but it's a tank not a hunting rifle. It's fun and easy on the shooter. Likes the 285's as well and the OTM's.

Trying N560 and RL 23. The 560 looks really promising so far, just have to fireform some more brass! Was busy annealing this afternoon.
H1000 and now I've been forced to try RL 33 due to shortages here in Canada as well. Glad I was it works beautifully! But the load is much higher on RL 33....great performance and very good ES and SD....7.5 on ES and 3 SD. A good load on H1000 is 91.5 but approach it with caution. Best of luck. RL 33 was formulated specifically for the 338 Lapua...

My Lapua likes N570 and RL 33! H1000 is unattainiuom right now so I gave up on it! My 300 RUM loves N565 with 220 ELDX. She is cruising at 3130! Sub .5 moa taken it out to over 1000. Most of my work the last little while has been on my 338 SDM.

Were those the first gen 300s, or the current gen? I guess what your describing was a problem on the first gen 300 OTMs.
What is the difference or how to tell between the "First Gen & 2nd Gen" in our Berger 300 OTMs part #33109.
I have several Thousand with Part # 33109, but I found a different color box (lighter color yellow) and it had a BC of 818. All our other boxes have BC 822 on them. Guess that that's the difference in Gen 1 & 2? You think Berger would make different part #s.
