308 or 6.5CM

I personally have never shot a pig, are they tougher than an elk? Seems like either of the mentioned cartridges would be suitable and readily available.
I've killed many over the years with everything from a 223 to a 338. Dome shots are what you seek. They don't take a step. Yes they will both work but 308 would be my choice.

Want to build a new rifle and starting looking at Lane Precision. I'm looking for a sub 300 yard rifle for deer and pigs. I like the 308 for many reasons and have a savage heavy barrel that was basically my first rifle 15 years ago. Still shoots well but I want a rifle I can carry in the woods for long hikes. I have a 300 WM if I even make it out elk hunting so I don't need a large caliber rifle.
So I'm looking for advice between the 308 and 6.5cm. I know the 6.5 is the new sexy round but for hunting deer and pigs under 300 yards what would you get?
I know there are a ton of other calibers out there but I'm only considering the 308 or 6.5.

many and all input welcomed.
If under 300 yds get the 308 better knock down power

6.5 Creedmoor hands down. The Creed with 140gr Swift A-Frame bullet will hammer them all day long. Light, accurate rifles are cheap and available, but can be dolled up to whatever price point you desire. Remember, the Swedes use its ballistic twin 6.5 x 55 all day long on moose. You won't regret it for one minute.

Hogs?
In order:
6.5 Grendel in an AR-15
Tikka T3x Superlite in 308 Win
Steyr Scout in 308 Win
I just bought a Tikka T3X lite in a 6.5 CM - on sale - $520. I have been too dang busy to get out and shoot it - but they guarantee One MOA. Should put Deer or pigs down - with proper shot placement. Would not want to go with it up against a riled up bear - even a mid-sized Black. :)

.308 is a no brained to me under the criteria you listed. It's a great round, and easy to get to shoot well, and I personally believe a better round for your targets at 300 or less.

I shot a 260 rem for years, now have 2 custom built 308's. The load my 2 daughters use is 125 gr nosler ballistic tip , 47 grains of varget and it's an absolute hammer. Deer here in Georgia just drop, never had results anywhere close with the 260. 308 is just got all the bases covered in you situation! Good luck!
