What powder would you recommend to run the 166s in a 30-06? Got a good load with the 137s and the N540 you recommended. 3370 FPS. Just thought I would try the 166s in the 06.

181g Hammer Hunter is tough to fit in the wsm unless you have extended magazine or better yet, long action.

Yeah, defiance long action with extended Wyatt's box. Wouldn't of built it that way, but converted from 300 PRC.

We have done well with rl16. 3000 fps in a 26" barrel

Don't overlook W760 in 06, I have gotten real interesting performance with Hammers with it in 06. Plus seems to be available. I posted up a 180HH load in the Hammer data with W760 in 700 ADL 30-06 with 22" barrel that was eye opened for me.

Went to range today to test some groups in my 33 nosler with h1000 and r16 running right around 2,800fps. Was getting less than expected accuracy as I shot just to realized the actions screws had loosened. They were torqued down, this time they are getting some lock tight added. This is only...

X-2 W760 and or H414 is one of my all time favorites and covers a very wide range of cartridges

I don't have any of the powder. I'll see what I have that's close to it. A friend just sold me 2 jugs of 8# WC852 for $75 each, that might be close to the H414 or 760. Have N140, N540, N555, N560, H4350, H4895, 4320, 4064, 4831SC, 2000MR, plus a couple of jugs each of the H1000, N570, and RL23 for cup and core application.

Which one would you suggest to start with for the 06? What about for the 300WM?

These hammers are still very new to me, cup and core I know which powder to use. I am really happy with the N540/137 combo in the 28 inch 30-06. The 2 boxes of 166 are just waiting their turn start with the 06 first. The new build, 300WM Bartlein CF, will be a dedicated hammer tube, have 180s as well for it. My other 300WMs, 30N, and 280AI are cup and core tubes.

Check out the Hammer load data spreadsheet that @GLTaylor maintains. Bet some good suggestions there. Read the Hammer intro on powder selection. Way different than CnC. You run faster powders to take advantage of the PDR design thus more velocity.
