.308 165gr bthp gameking

Load the Sierra Gamekings in both my 308 and my buddy's 300 WM. Accuracy was more than acceptable with a few groups printing in the low .3s and high .2 for the 308.... the 300 WM it was a little wider at about 3/4" groups. We run my buddy's 300 WM a little on the slow side so it doesn't pound him too bad ...probably about 3100 but I don't have my load book in front of me. Performance on game...they open up quick, but haven't loss a deer yet to them. Definitely try and stay off the shoulder. The hollow point isn't so much of a hole and more of a wicked looking cross or X.. Wicked is a great description actually.

I'm with you on the 165 SMK's. I just purchased a very slightly used Custom 308 on a REM. Action with. Kreiger 1:10 barrels. I simply stopped in at Bass Pro and bought a box of Fed Premiums with 168 SMK' to test fire the rifle before Purchase. First shot was 6" Low @ 200 but that was to get me on paper and make a couple of adjustments . Next two were touching at 200! Needless to say I bought the rifle. Now to find the Redding Type S dies is the $64 K question and some Varget to do Load development.

Didn't realize they changed the name of this bullet. Killed many many whitetail with that bullet from a 270
The GameChanger is a different bullet than the GameKing. It has a plastic point, and the bullet has been re-engineered. See https://www.sierrabullets.com/resources/bullet-selection/:

GameChanger (TGK) Bullets: These are hunting bullets with the perfect combination of Sierra's legendary match accuracy coupled with deadly penetration. Sierra re-engineered their legendary MatchKing bullet into a hollow point design for quick expansion and fitted it with a transparent green tip for ballistic uniformity. Inside, the GameChanger features a unique construction that utlilizes a special lead alloy surrounded by a tough copper jacket that delivers excellent penetration and expansion at a variety of ranges.

Sierra has 6 308 Game Kings and 3 Tipped Game Kings in 308, different weights and some with a soft point, full metal jacket, and hollow points. I use the BTHP 165's in my 308 and whitetail deer usually fall with one shot. They have been extremely accurate in 6 rifles I have shot them in and I have two friends that use them exclusively.

No love for the Berger 170 EOL?
I Have, a 1-10 Twist Tikka that, shoots the 140 Classic Hunters into, SUB 1/2 MOA groups at, 100 & 200 yards and ALL, the Recoil that, I want ! I shot, a 6" group at, 700 yards, in mild winds, last week with this bullet, & good enough for, the Girls that, I go with,.. And out of, a 7 Pound, 10 ounce, Tikka T-3, 24" SS,.. "Mtn Rifle".
This Bullet, is Launched at, 3,185 FPS and still going, OVER 2,000 FPS at,.. 800 Yards !
MY Max Hunting distance is, 650- 700 yds , for Elk, so,.. IT's,.. "Plenty" good !
The 170's are NICE, for sure,.. but MORE,.. Recoil !

That sounds good, I will be loading some up about Monday, I was thinking about using varget
Aloha Mudman
Sorry just came across this post. We use the Sierra 30 cal 165 gr GKHP exclusively in all of our 30 cal rifles. In the 8 308's I've loaded for using this bullet 43-45 gr Varget has produced 1 hole groups for us. I hope you find the same accuracy in your loads. Wish you the best on your future hunts

You should have great results on deer. We've shot 1'000s of deer and other game all over the world with this bullet. Best to you!
