WyoWhisper,
If I were RH, I give you $1500 for that rig!!! Hell, it doesn't even look like it weighs 12 lbs. My own .300 WSM weighs approx. 17 lbs. Incidentally, it also happens to perform best with those 168-gr HPBTs. Shoots Lapua 167-gr Scenars sub-1/4 MOA x 5 shots at least 1/3 of the time! It also likes the 185-gr Scenars, but clearly not as much seein' as how the twist in the barrel is 1:12. I'll try a 1:11 once the current bbl is shot out. At any rate, you oughta buy that rig from the owner and just keep it for hunts where your gear would be at great risk due to the elements or theft. Several years ago, I only narrowly missed out on an opportunity to go hunting north of Vladivostok with a friend of mine who was living in Moscow at the time. And I'll never forget how he emphazised that I needed to bring a rifle that I could afford to lose!
Russia is full of thievin' bastards from top to bottom, he explained

Regards,
Dave

HoustonBoy,

Here's the kicker.. it IS Mine, I gave him what he had in it $800!! I spent a little money with Chris Matthews for him to work his magic on it, but as it sits, it is worth every penny of $1500!
I opted to hunt with the 175's for the 1000 yards energy, and the groups are just a itty bit bigger about .4, but they shoot 4" at 500 yards. I shot a 8" group at 704 yards yesterday with it, with the 175's I think I'm good to go!

oh yeah I forgot .. it weighs around 10 lbs.

Jody

How did we get an "eagle" from a pigeon?

As in Websters---"Pigeon", A Bird that chirps, has small head, plump body and short legs.

I'll bring the "lawn Mower" and a good "file" for those talons you think are growing.

DC, Boyd
and Chris Matthews

I hate to brag but I am so freakin' tickled with the way this 300WSM shoots...

I just shot this group not 10 min ago...

11 total shots 1st one out of the cold clean bore is at 7'oclock low.. the tiny squares are .25"

57.5 grs of H4895 Nosler J4 Competion 168 gr. seated .020 off the lands @ 3000 fps

as I mentioned Chris fixed the feeding problems and set the barrel back and cut the chamber with a match reamer so I could seat the bullets the way I wanted.

I prep the brass but my dies are the standard RCBS FL die ( I FL everytime to bump the shoulder .002 ) and the seater is the Forester Ultra Seater.

So DC and Boyd.. should I bring this 10lb gun to Williamsport and stop all the rumors??

sorry but I am happy to say the least!!!

Oh My Ric.

Bring that 10# rifle with those light bullets to Williamsport and show us a 10 shot 14" or 15" group in "good" conditions.

For hunting, it will be a dandy. As for competitive shooting I don't know for sure. I question the light bullets which "normally" don't do well in the 30 cals at 1000 yards.

Most "all" 1000 yard guns will shoot one tiny hole at the range you have been testing it.

If it's windy, you might want to leave the light bullets in Wyoming. You may want to try 210 JLK?

Now now how quickly you current "easterners" forget how the weather is typically out west...

w i n d y.......

One thing I am used to is shooting in the wind.. I'll give you the fact that a 168 gr 30 Cal isn't the best choice for shooting 1K in the wind.

If only there was a hunting rifle class, no BR stocks etc. I think I'd at least give a good run at it...

Ric

I know what the wind does in the west. 13 years in a row to Colorado has taught me that.

It's still not shooting at Williamsport where the wind many times, comes across the range in three different directions at the same time, plus, your shooting over water and
rolling hills.

Yes, You might do well in a hunting class except we don't have any classes like that?

When a rifle shoots well for people, the best thing to do if your planning on shooting at Williamsport, is to put up a target at 1022 Yards (distance at Williamsport) and shoot 10 shots on paper and see how it prints with 10 shots.

It still won't be as tough as Williamsport though. That's a real hard range to shoot at, match after match.

As mentioned, your rifle is shooting well for a hunting rifle. I doubt it would compete at a 1000 match against 16 1/2 and/or heavy guns. They have the advantage.

Let us know how it does this hunting season on elk and deer. You should do very well with it.

Hey... your raining on my parade.. :-(

Truth be told I know I couldn't compete against the 16.5 lb guns...

but it would be neat to have a hunter/hunting type class...

but could you hear the flack after the politically correct hunters hear about guys practicing with their hunting rifles...

wow I could only imagine
