300 Win Mag vs 300 RUM vs 338 Lapua vs 338 RUM

I inherited my dad's .338 RUM Sendero. Not a new one and is awesome. My favorite rifle. He went to Berger VLD 250s after using Barnes XLC 210 grainers but never got a chance to take an animal with them. Long range performance was to his liking and he wanted every ounce of advantage. Here in north Idaho I knew the ranges would rarely get up to 1000 yards so with my VX3 CDS I am dialed out to 750 with the first gen CDS offerings from 2013. My load is the Barnes TTSX 225 grain (BC .514) at 3100 using Reloader 22. If I had the newer CDS system moving the dial more than one revolution I would be good to 1200 and more. If I wanted a lot more distance I would look at the Barnes TTSX LRX 225 grain bullet. Bigger bullets make nice wound channels at longer yardages. Bullet placement and design goes a long way no matter the cartridge chosen.

There is a ton of calibers and loads that will do it. But I'm a 338 guy. I just like the ballistics of it and being able to run a heavy bullet to minimize wind effects. I've got a Lapua from Christensen and it shoots like a dream

.300 Grain Bullet (.338) with a B.C. of .818 verses a 210 grain Bullet with around a .250 B.C. More accuracy at farther distances. Removing Variabes is what the LRS is all about!
Is that 210 grain .308 bullet a semi-wad cutter? :D
I get what you're say but some may not. Might want to explain your post a little better, as in comparison of a G1 and G7. Plus that's still a little low for the G7.

I knew what the .338 was but would have had to look up the .308 Ballistic Coefficient so just an estimate on th .308. Accuracy and thump at 1000 yrds, big difference! At least on my rifles!;)

Best I did pushing my 338 Edge with a 30 inch barrel was 3048 fps with Reloader 33..OAL at 3.924. with the 300 gr Berger's...Brass was done in 3 shots...was well over pressure and backed it down 2 full grains to 3008fps and could get 8 reloads before tossing the brass. My second edge shot this same load at 3012 fps..I was a little more brave shooting hot loads in my single shot as the action was stronger with out the mag cut outs or at least that is what I told myself... Guess the bolt lugs were the same.. This barrel was chambered with the same reamer Carlock used and sold (not the plus P) the Regular Edge... I suppose if a person added the Weatherby Style Freebore and a longer OAL to try and relieve some pressure you might of gained something...I am having my 3rd Edge built right now... Almost done. I went with the regular Edge even though my gunsmith has the improved version 35 degree shoulder reamer with the very similar to the plus P Throat. My goal is to have the rifle shoot the 300 gr at somewhere close to 3000fps.. Like the other 2 Edges I had would...Only in a repeater this time... This rifle has a 4.00 inch wyatts... .
