Before I wright this, The 300 Varminter is a specialty rifle designed around a Custom Nesika and BAT actions, Bartlien 1-15 twist Barrels, Match Tight Nek Chambers, with a free bore for the 110grn V-Max and 125grn BT. A normal 300 WSM cartrdige will NEVER be able to obtain the velocities and performance the 300 Varminter attaines. It is a special rifle desigend for shooting lighter .30 calbullets at high velcoities.
I printed out a Ballistics Chart for the 300 Varminter using the 110grn V-Max for shots out to 600 yards.
I used the following info 1. velocity of 4000fps, using the lighter load to allow for better brass life. The rifle is capable of pushing the 110grn V-Max to 4150fps. However, by backing it down to 4000fps the brass will last longer.
2. 3:00 angle 10MPH wind.
3. 80 Degree Temp
4. Relative Humity of 78.05.
5. Elevation 2500 feet
6. Sight Height 1.5(in)
7. Sight in Distance 200
This is what you get with the 300 Varminter and with the 110grn V-Max at 4000fps your brass life will be longer. The 300 Varminter is capable of pushing the 110grn V-Max at over 4100fps;
Yards* Drop* Windage
200**** 0.00* 1.25
300**** 1.25* 2.00
400**** 2.75* 2.75
500**** 4.50* 3.50
600**** 6.75* 4.25
These numberes are pretty impressive and the 300 Varminter will be a real flat shooter out to 600 yards with the 110grn V-Max. This rifle will provide major splat factor, low recoil, and maximum kill power at 600 yards over the .22 cals and 6mm cal using the same type of light poly varmint poly tipped bullets.
For example here is a 22-250 using the 55grn V-Max at 3800fps using same information above
Yard* Drop* Windage
200** 0.00* 1.50
300** 1.50* 2.50
400** 3.25* 3.50
500** 5.50* 4.50
600** 8.25* 5.75
Here is example of a 6mmAI using a 87grn V-Max at 3600fps using the same information above.
Yard Drop Windage
200* 0.00* 1.00
300* 1.50* 1.50
400* 3.00* 2.25
500* 5.00* 2.75
600* 7.00* 3.50
The 300 Varminter is very imprssive low volume varmint rifle that will provide the hunter with maximum kill power out to 600 yards with 110grn V-Max and the 125grn BT is even more impressive out to 800 yards. However, if you switch to the VLD type bullets in this test, the numbers would be different, however, you will not receive the same effect on varmints the poly tipped bullets provides out to these ranges. Remember this rifle and test is for the varmint hunter looking for a set up that provides excellent ballistics out to 600 yards that will provide a RED MIST and Acrobatic shows that all varmint hunters loves.
I know the higher BC bullets will give better BC out to 600 yards, but they will not provide the kill power that we varmint hunters love. The 300 Varminter provides the ultimate in accuracy, splat factor and kill power on large and small varmints.*This post is for the varmint hunter that is looking for a low volume rifle that will provide high velocity with varmint bullets out to ranges from 400 to 600 yards with benchrest accuracy. The 300 Varminter is an ultimate low volume rifle for just that purpose. Do you want to put 200 or 300 rounds through it a session, no. However, it will be perfect for the few shots you take past the 400 yard mark and out to 600 yards.
