300 ultra mag barrel length

A little touchy I'd rather practice and stay in my comfort zone 700 yards for mešŸ˜‰
Not touchy at all, but there seems to be an awful lot of guys on this forum that don't seem to realize that ringing gongs at 1000 isn't the same as killing animals the size of elk at 1000. There are also a lot of guys who can't seem to pack a ten or twelve pound 28" barrelled rifle while hunting. If you can't, then limit your shots to what a short barrel light gun is really capable of, and that isn't killing stuff at 1000 yards because your wound and loss rate is going to be really high.

With a 1:10 twist, not sure the Hammers will get you to 1k or beyond.

Tell us more about the hunt. Are you packing in far or do you have easy access? If easy access, length and weight mean little. Not sure how much you'd lose in 4.5", likely not enough truly matter.
They will I ran the 181 out farther than that. Out of a 300 win mag.

I regularly shoot 1000-1500 . I live in central Mt where shots across the canyon get a bit long so yes I practice alot, isn't that what this site is about? Honestly I would rather take game much less than that but the are I'm hunting this year the need for long shots will be many

Nothing wrong with long distance hunting. My point is to use the right equipmrnt to do it the very best you can. An 8 lb 300 RUM with a 22" barrel is NOT a 1000 yard killer in the hands of 95 % of even experienced long range shooters.

I hunt with 21" 1-9 twist with a RexSitentuim MG 10 it's great šŸ‘ I shootout to 1100 yards with it all the time and my farthest kill is 628 yards.
Berger 215's
Federal large rifle primers
Peterson brass
95 grs retumbo
2943 fts

95 degrees weather gotta love Arizona.
I, too, love my MG10 on my .338 Thor.

It looks good to me.

I know what you mean. The bowhunter in me forces me to get closer.

Both my RUMS have a 26" barrel, but one will be replaced soon with a 28-30". I rarely pack this rifle, and the length has zero effect when I'm shooting crop damage deer. One RUM has a 7" suppressor on it, and it looks incredibly long, but it really isn't a problem.

I use a 20" rum 8 twist shooting 180 hammer bullets at 3200 using rl26, it's been a great setup. I'm planning on working up a load for 214 hammers also, hoping to get 2950-3000 fps.
