300 Sherman Shortmag (SS)

I'm really wanting to try it. Still have to talk with my smith on it. These two barrels are just setting here taunting me lol. Plus having an unused model 7 saum setting here feeling unloved. I will probably stick with the 208s but the 225s I may have to mess with some.
Course I may have to do either a 6.5 or 7 as well but the 300 has really struck a chord with me right now.

I can verify that Ryan's 300 is I great shooting rifle. We have done some rock busting together....rich

I hope to do some more shooting with it when I get back from Christmas. I'd rather be shooting than sitting in the airport! I'm going to focus on the 225 and 208's again when I get home and do some more testing. I'm waiting along with everyone else for the imr 8133 to come out and see if it's dense enough and small enough grains to use in this case.

Idaho trecker, I've got a long action sitting here with a 25" .308 9.5 twist barrel on the way. As much as I want to build a 300wm I can't help but want to build something different. Would you think a 300ss ran out of accurate mags be a knucklehead move on a long action?

I'm not him, but on a long action you could run the standard 300 sherman, about the same performance, slightly better if anything, and brass is much simpler, just neck up a .270 or .280, just a thought. You would need a standard bolt face vs mag.

I'm in the same boat of liking the short fat cartridges. Not sure how it would be in a long action aics mag.

Did you ever do any testing with the 212 ELD-X I'm also intrigued by the Sherman Short mag. Trying to decide on the 7mm or 30mm

Not with 212 but with 215 Berger and 208 ELDM. " Idaho trecker " this forum is a good source of info for the 300 ss.
