300 RUM and Hammer bullet

I ran the 181 just shy of 3600fps in a 300 Lapua improved. Settled at 3490fps. I think I could gain extra velocity with RL26. I ran out of case just as I got my first sign of pressure and I'm running 2 grains under that.

Loading the 214 hammer hunter right now in 300 norma improved. With 570 and lapua brass. Found a load with really good ES and accuracy just gotta stretch the legs past 100 to 1000 yards and see how it performs.

Tried the 199 didn't get as good as ES so might try Steve's pet load with h1000 in it if the 214 don't work out.

I have the same setup you have, Norma Improved with proof 9 twist barrel. Currently going to try hammer 199's with n570 but would appreciate your load details and experiences with both.

I tried Cutting Edge bullets in my 300 RUM 1:9 twist and they wouldn't stabilize. Tried some others and wasn't happy with those results either. Berger VLD 230s are the ticket for me. Holes touching at 100. 7/8" group at 400. Less than a 4" group at 1000.

I have a RUM loaded with 94 gr of retumbo and the 181's. Great on paper. Trying first hand at elk next month. Hope to be able to brag a little then

214's did not perform how I hoped at extended range. 600 plus. Couldn't get the groups I wanted and BC didn't seem to match for me. I would go with 199's and not look back.

They recommended the 199's over the 214's to me as well, but you are the first guy I've come across to actually shoot the 214's so I was curious. Thank you for this information!

Your welcome I don't think you will be disappointed. Please keep us updated on how they work for you. What animal are going to use them on?
