300 PRC suppressor questions

I have two 300 PRC. One in 22" and one 20" (yeah I know). I wanted a shortest possible configuration and went with TBAC ultra 5 direct thread at 8oz. That configuration is 24.5" on the short 300 PRC. Love the lightness and compact 5" of the ultra 5.

That said, maybe the barrel, but i lost close to 150 fps going from 22 to 20" for the 215 hybrid. 2925 to 2775. Both C6 barrels. However, the short one didn't make it to me in time for the African trip. Would have hunted with 208 lrx running 2800 fps. Good enough for even long distances.

I shoot a christensen mesa 24" 300prc. I reload with 212 barnes lrx and 80.8 grains of H1000 at 2915 fps. I have a banish 30 on it that is crazy how much quieter it makes it. awesome to hunt suppressed but the 24" barrel with a can is pretty forward heavy. But I still love it to hunt with.

Couple of things.

Barrel length: In order to get halfway decent suppression, you are looking at needing at least a 6-7" can of around 1-3/4" diameter. As you currently have a 26" barrel, even if you cut it down to 20" you are still going to end up right around, or just over your current OAL on the rifle. Anything longer than that is a longer gun. My preference is 16-19" for "standard" cartridges and 20-21" for "magnums". You will end up losing about 20-30 fps/per inch that you chop off. So, with your current rifle, expect to lose somewhere around 150 fps going from 26" to 20-21".

Suppressor choice: For hunting, a good lightweight can is your best bet. The heaviest I would go would be in the 12-13oz range. I have a Dead Air Nomad that works very well on a couple of 18" and 20" barreled rifles in the 7-9lb range, but the Ti version is about 5oz lighter. Dead Air's new Nomad Ti XC is a great option as it is coming in at 9.6 oz, is completely 3D printed so no welds to worry about and has really good suppression. K-type cans are small and light, but they don't do a great job of suppressing the big boomers, which your PRC will be in a short barrel. Another good option is the TBAC Ultra 7 (although I really don't like their direct thread "solution"). The SilencerCo Scythe is my final recommendation, however be warned that they have started seeing weld failures, particularly when used on short-barreled magnums. Not a ton, but a pattern is emerging. SilencerCo, as always, is doing a great job of fixing the issue when it is happening, but for $1300 (including stamp) it shouldn't be happening at all.

x2 on the Nomad Ti XC. A great 3D printed option. Personally prefer that to welded cans, but do have quite a few welded models that have worked well too.

I'm less than a full year into using suppressors myself. Most pertinent to the OP, I'm using a TBAC Ultra 5 Gen 2 CB on a 24" 300Win Mag. It settles everything down to "tolerable". There's more recoil reduction than I was expecting, it's down into the range of a non-magnum long-action (270/30-06). Regarding suppression, I still use molded plugs @ the range, but I don't worry about anything at all while afield.

There's a bunch of great lightweight and compact "hunting" suppressors available, just thought I'd toss one more into the mix.

Of those previously mentioned here I have a TBAC ultra 7 gen 2, DD STi and a scythe. Ultra 7 isn't as quiet as the other two but I still like that can. Scythe and STi are so close I can't tell the difference. I wouldn't worry about a sico can. They will take care of it and quickly if something fails. That said there are so many good cans out now I would study all of them. I won't shoot a rifle without a can. Have gathered a pile over the last 12 or so years.

Im using a Banish Backcountry on my Waypoint in 300 PRC. Only complaint is the 24" CF barrel length. I am wanting an 18 or 20" barrel for it in the very near future. I'll take the velocity loss to gain the portability as I carry it around a lot more than I shoot it. Ive been quite happy with my Banish can but I have not shot it head-to-head with any other TI constructed cans.

I have 5 suppressors from silencer central. 2 of the banish 46 and 3 banish 30. All of them are so good...even on long barrels.....that i don't even consider chopping barrels. Even the 46 on 30, 28, 6.5 prc do such a job quieting things down and reducing recoil...it's amazing. The banish 46 are mostly used on our 36 whelen for iowa deer hunting. But my boys still want them for all their rifles...308, 6.5 prc, etc. I run the 46 on my 300 wby. Love it. All the benefits of running suppressors out weigh and inconvenience of long barrels. I just carry the rifles differently to go through brush

I hunt with an TBAC ULTRA 7 on my 22' 300PRC. It is truly enjoyable, very light. Keep in mind it does not do much for recoil reduction. If you want that go for a Magnus RR (more weight) or the new Silencer Central Meat Eaters suppressor. Those reduce recoil but sound suppression is not as good.

I've got 2 22" proof barrels that I shoot suppressed. 6.5 and .300, both prc's. Nomad Ti can, very happy with it. The 6.5 is slow, but my .300 makes book velocity numbers with factory ammo and the shorter barrel. I haven't hand loaded for the .300 it shoots factory so well. Not much recoil reduction, although I find the .300 much more pleasant to shoot with the can, it changes the recoil impulse to more of a push than a crack.

Have 2 Gunwerks Suppressors, this one & the 6 inch version of this one. Run the 8" on my Gunwerks Nexus in 300 PRC (20" Barrel), as well as on a Snowy Mountain in 300 PRC (22" Barrel). Money well spent, no complaints whatsoever.
