30 nosler load data

Terminally the there's not a lot difference I could tell based on two kills I've seen on large game, except the 245 penetrates more if not passes through pending on the shot variables. The 215 is just plain hard to beat as far as explosive killing animal power like elk size. It's just that good. If 245's are 90% as explosive but gain wind deflection and energy then I'll take that all day. Hits up to the 520 yds mark I can not see any difference other than maybe more brute energy with the 245 but internal damage looks the same. Shooting hogs after Christmas out west Texas. We go out sit on a rock peak, glass all day and shoot long range critters so I'll will have a lot large hog kills with thick plates and shoulders. They will tell a pretty story how they do.

I have been using the .205 on my .30 have 5 hogs down. I read on a chat where a boar hog was situated in a personal position with a sow. I came across that and gave the boar hog stars. What a way to go out with a bang! I will work on the .215 next but with 1-10 twist and .200 fb I don't think my barrel will spin the .245? Thinking on a carbon 24" with a 9 twist? I have truly been enjoying the .30 Nosler. I go back in time where the 30-06 was the cats meow. It was my second centerfire the 30-30 Win was my first. 69 was a good year had my first Texas deer lease at a dollar an acre. 4 High school age friends split the lease, 1500 dollars. It was a high price back then. But the memories were all good especially the haunted farm house we stayed in! Got off track a little didn't I? It happens when one gets old.

I have not on the wm 30 nos or 300 rum but I just have a problem keeping a gun long enough for that issue to present itself 😀 I'm really hoping my current 7 saum and 30-28 change that trend. It's getting too expensive to change things every couple of years... 😉

There's not much out there on the 30 nosler but lots on the 26 and 7mm.

On the 300 rum I've read as little as 700 which to me is more in line with a 7stw or nos. I've read a lot say 1000-1100 with a few saying 14-1500.

I'd say it depends greatly on the type of powder used, charge weight, cleaning and how you treat it on the bench. It will also depend on your accuracy expectations. If you have a custom rig shooting in the .2s out to 600 and expect that you may see shorter barrel life where a guy happy with .7s at 600 will see 2-300 more rounds of barrel life.

I run H1k which is a little easier on barrels and baby my rigs. I'd be happy to see it maintain .5 to 600 to around 1400 rounds.

How did the 245's do on those hogs?

I shot two with them in the last 4 months. Both pass throughs. Didn't take a step. One was about 140 the other around 200. Holes were around 1.5" exit. Both in the shoulders. Smaller one was close around 100. The bigger one was around 350 or so same results. I like it so much now I've switched to them totally on my 30 cals.

You're getting 2960 fps with the 245 out of a 24" barrel? I just ran those numbers in Strelok, less than 6" drift at 400 with a full value 10 mph wind, very impressive with that BC.

I've got a couple of 22"Bartlein 8 twist barrels on the way from bug holes, bought the reamer from AZ Patriot with .200 freebore. Was planning to run the 215 Hybrid or 230 OTM, or maybe one of the big monolithics, with H1000 or Retumbo. Your numbers on the 245 have me thinking about trying them, seems like 2900 should be achievable in a 22" barrel….I've also got N570 on hand but hesitate to use it because it's so hard on barrels and leaves a ton of carbon in the suppressor. You think it's possible to get to 2900 with the 245's in a 22" barrel with H1000 or Retumbo? The numbers are tempting me……

With those powders no. I think with n570 in a 22" your gonna be about limited out around 2900. The h1000 and retumbo I think will be low 2800's. I've played with the 245 in two other 30N's getting same thing same results. I even started shooting the 7 saum with the heavy's and 195.

That reamer was created around the 215. Should be able to push 3k with N565 or H1000.

You CAN run 245's, but with that FB in a 22" barrel…2900 is a tall order. You'll still buck the wind, just not quite as flat of a trajectory.

I just started some development with the 195 in my 7PRC. In stock form, has a very reasonable FB. Promising first impressions. Next up will need to run ladders.

With retumbo and the 215, I was at what I would consider a max load at 2990ish average, from a 20". Best accuracy in a ladder test would have likely been around 2900ish just judging from how I know this rifle. A 245 would likely be mid 2600 to low 2700 in my 20" for accuracy, just guessing. Add around 40-60 fps for a 22". That is with a .215 freebore....if you ran a longer freebore specifically for the 245 you could maybe do a shade better. So 2700-2775ish would be my guess for an accurate load with retumbo, a 245, and a 22". Take away probably 30-50 fps for H1k. Add it back with a longer freebore. Add 75-100ish fps and half the barrel life for N570.

Me, I'm just running a 190ish grain mono with a bc near that of a 230 berger at 2950-3000 from a 20" using Retumbo. It's nicer on my shoulder than a heavier bullet, and I'm not pushing pressure either. Lovin it.

Which mono? Lrx?
