Now if Gibbs holds 8% more we come to 66 gr

The fastest 300WM 180 (Hodgdon) load is 73.7 4955 2984 fps 62,900 pres

The fastest 06' 180 (Hodgdon) load is 59.7 SuperPerf 2840 ps 57.800 pres

So can the Gibbs pick up 140 fps with safe pressure ?

From my own experience with SupPer, I've found it to be amazing in small bore large capacity cartridges.

Awesome! I am aware of Qual Cart @ $1.97 but they have been out for awhile esp. with COVID-19. RCC also makes them for $5.51 a piece. I am using Hornady's .35 Whelen for starters.

Always thought that using. 280 Rem would be a good idea to get the extra volume and still have a longer neck.

Not sure what to load at this time but I have the following bullets readily available Berger 190/210/215/230, Hornady ELD-X 178/212/220 and 208 A-Max, I'm sure I got more just too lazy to dig through. Too many to list on powder choices.

Now the load development fun begins ..................................................................................................................... I just hope, I find the time to do it.

Just for the record, I am in no way trying to convince anyone to build a .30 Gibbs or compare it to a similar improved version. My goal is to simply add to the knowledge base in the forum. If you do a quick search, there is hardly any information about it and they tend to die off. Hopefully, those that have .30 Gibbs that remained quiet will engage and share their experiences.

Feenix sounds like Skimbleshanks might have hit the nail on the head as the 178 to 190 wt would give some good velocity. I don't know how far you plan to push your loads but I see dead elk out to 5-600 yds easy with those wts. I do miss the grand mesa country in Colorado

I think that's pretty typical. Mine also does that with the 30-06 Ackley. This is why somebody suggested using 280 Remington brass, which is 1mm longer. When the shoulder and forward case body fill out, some of the brass comes from the neck. Some also comes from the body, potentially leaving a stretch mark down near the web. This is why a lot of guys wipe the case body with a light lubricant prior to fire-forming. I never did that, but I may not be a bad idea. If I was to employ that concept, though, I would consider reducing the load a tad, since this is said to increase bolt thrust. When the case walls don't grip chamber walls, more of the pressure goes backward against the bolt. At least, that's the concept. I don't know if the increase in back-thrust is significant or not. Has anybody out there found a way to test this concept ???

A few years ago I took over a build of a guy that owed me money, it was in 240 Gibbs, I also bought a 270 Gibbs on a P17 action from a friend who couldn't figure out what it was, and just wanted to get rid of it. The Gibbs line of wildcats are very interesting to play with. Let us know how it shoots. Very beautiful rifle. Quality Cartridge makes brass for it.

Use the method Rocky Gibbs suggested in his book which I have and you can fireform in your back yard and lose less cases if any. I have a 25 and a 30 Gibbs.

You know the 300 Win Mag is totally better right? And you can't even find loaded ammo for a 30 Gibbs! Plus my 308 gets the same velocities with half the powder and negative recoil forces. And then there's this other completely unrelated thing I want to talk about too...........

That's a good looking setup! I think the weight is just about perfect, I try for 8# scopes with my hunting guns. The scope intrigues me too. I'm curious to hear how it works out for you. I've never personally had a USO in my hands so I'm not familiar with them at all.

A local shop had a 30 Gibbs sitting on the used rack back before the world went sideways and I was really close to grabbing it. That got me thinking about having an Encore pistol barrel in 30 Gibbs. I haven't ruled out that project, so I'm anxious to see what sort of performance you end up getting out of this.

It looks like you've got a set of Whidden dies, did you stumble onto those in stock somewhere or did you order them?
