30/28 Nosler

Just my 2 cents after reading all this.. It appears that if a guy has a 28 Nosler and has a ton of components to use up, He might just try the 30/28 to use his current stash of components. Otherwise just shoot a 30 nosler with the ADG brass. I think a lot of people don't like the barrel life of the 28 Nos. The 30/28 Nos is a good option to use components.. I don't think I would just jump at this caliber if you didn't already have some components already because their are better 30 cal options.. Always fun to mess around with new stuff and see how it works for you.. "To each their own."
After my current 28 barrel gives out I will probably give the ole 30/28 a go just because I have all the stuff.. I will miss the ole 28 that Dallas built me .. It has been a sheer hammer under 82 grains of N570 . The Ballistics on the 195 EOL haven't disappointed me either.

It does have more capacity and will for pure raw speed. I think it's well known the 215 shoots well in the 30 and 30-28 in that 3100FPS node. I think if the 30-28 will even get to a higher one it would have to be with 570 and stepped on pretty hard.
My 30-28 gets to the 3100FPS easier than the straight 30 Noslers that I have loaded for all with .225 freebore.

I really think that a guy could push hard on the ole 30/28 with N-570 and gain some speed. I have found that N-570 really burns a barrel up fast though.. Throat life is poor. I myself would probably use H-1000 in the 30/28. Just my observation of powder. It would be interesting to track the two powders and compare throat life.

I dont doudt at all if 570 is harder on throats than H1000, ive shot a little bit of 570 in my 30-28 and after a couple shots the barrel is definitely hotter to the touch than H1000.

A month ago I was able to get 8 lbs of N570. I'm looking forward to doing load builds with my 28 Nosler with a 26" barrel. I'm currently using RL33 with 3180 fps using 175 Hornady ELD-X's and sub 1/2" groups. My 30/28 Nosler is at the gunsmith getting a new 28" barrel. In my testing before on my 30/28 Nosler with a 25 1/2" barrel I found H1000 (my favorite powder) to reach pressure sign issues well before the expected velocity was reached. (incrementally beneficial over the 300 Win Mag). With RL33 and Retumbo I was well above what I thought was a safe load, (compressed as I remember) without pressure signs, but not getting expected velocity. The sweet spot powder was RL26. Accurate, high velocities and low pressure signs. So, when my 30/28 rifle comes back from the gunsmith, I was going to switch to 210 - 215 bullets but stick with RL26. Are you all seeing accurate, high velocity results with N570, 210 -215 bullets in your 30/28s? I was going to save my N570 powder for my 28 Nosler. Is it worth it to me to do load work with N570 in my 30 / 28 Nosler? I mean the stuff is like gold, you don't want to waste it.

I know Pierce runs the 86.6 gr H1000 load as a recommendation in his 30/28N not sure on his freebore but I imagine it's 215 friendly. Looks like you have a good node there.

I would expect ADG 28 nosler brass to have much more capacity than the 30 nosler thus broadening the gap between the two in performance.
Believe this to be a out 2gr difference? The adg 30N vs nosler brand if 101/99gr. The adg 28N vs nosler is 101/102.5gr. This was measure with all fireformed accept the adg28N it was a new case. Fired it may be closer to 103.

Seems like it would be more than 2 gr difference. Who knows....

My 30-28 ADG 28 Nosler brass is slightly more than 104 about 104.2 avg.
If I remember rfurman did some comparison and it was like 3 gr. difference

Finally got to shoot my Wheeler 30/28 I bought from @Rhovee
Man, it drives nails. Elk season will be here soon, and I'll be carrying this. Range data to 600. Taking it out to 1,200 next weekend.

Any of you guys finalize a load with 215s and n570?
I recently picked up a jug of n570 and loaded up 9 rounds. 3 rounds each charge and stepping up 1 grain at a time useing new Nos brass.
Started at 84 grains. Appears to be pretty low pressure. Accuracy wasn't bad. Didn't have time to shoot the rest. Definitely noticed a little more barrel heat after those 3.

My previous load is 83 grains of RL26 with Bertram brass but with warmer weather I'm getting more pressure than I like and accuracy has opened up.

OAL is 3.695
