Ladder test started at 56.0 gr. Ended at 59.8. I started seeing pressure at 59.2. I settled at 57.6. My cheap chronograph said it was 2760 fps average. My ballistic app trued the load at 2804 fps at 968 yards. It dials every rang dead on with the trued velocity so I trust that more than chronograph.

My father loved his 270's but always kept around some 06's. He built a 30-06 AI on a Winchester pre64 model 70. It turned out to be his best shooting rifle ever. My grandson is now the owner of that rifle and harvested a great eastern WA mule deer with it Saturday. 150 grain Nosler Balistic Tip. His great grandpa would be very proud.

Here is the other 06 we used Saturday. Serengeti chamber. 26 inch Bartlein CF, McM sniper fill molded in camo, worked over R-700. SRS Ti Pro 3 ST. Vortex HD LHT 3-15.

The beauty, we will be in CO, 2nd season. We can interchange ammo between the two rifles. Verified precision and drop for each. My 28 inch stick launches the same ammo at about 35 fps faster.

This is pretty close to what I wanted to build a few years back. Recently started thinking about a 300 WM or 7mm RM. This dang thread has me waffling back to the 30-06 again lol. Bummer is I just missed a Rem 700 G series in 30-06

I actually tried to sell my 06 to a member here just for the parts cost (edit: checked PM, shipped, insured below parts acquisition cost), glad he did not take great interest in it.

I tried this over the weekend with my sporterized 03-A3. Had some 30 year old Elephant 3f black powder. Filled the case to the mouth and settled the powder some then added more for compression. Seated a 125 gr fmj with some compression. Shot well at 50 yards off my back deck. Lots of smoke. Cleaned up easily.

I had a hard time hearing some of the audio. What velocities were you getting and what kind of accuracy?

I also shoot BP, so I have considered trying out some coated grease groove bullets in my '06 with BP. It should shoot fairly well with minimal fouling issues if the correct diameter and correct hardness greased bullet is used.

That is not my video. But this influenced me to try it with my Springfield. I think he said the 150 gr jacketed bullets were about 1700 fps.
