30-06 for Long Range

A 30-06 is not and I repeat not a long range cartridge and never will be, even 30 years ago there were many that were better! period!

That there are better is obvious...but not a long range cartridge...? How ya figger that?

The range is like 200 yards difference.

What is your definition of long range?

3. Most importantly yourself...30-06 is fine for long range.

Apparently the definition of long range cannot be defined.
Define it for yourself based on 1-3.

The title of the thread is extreme long range WHATEVER !

You have provided this hunter with no guidance as to why it is inadequate as a long range cartridge. You merely pizzed on his thread. That may be all he has. Encourage him as to why, based on facts, figures, and real data. Let those prove or disprove anything that is said. 700 yards is quite a poke. Is it extreme, no but all the factors of a successful shot are required.

So WHATEVER.

3006 and "extreme" dont even belong in the same sentence... I would limit the 3006 to about 800 yards for LR hunting. A lot better calibers these days that shoot circles around the 3006 for both hunting and LR target shooting. That said, I've never owned, or care to own a 3006. It's just boring, and doesnt do anything really great, it just works ok for most everything. Not a bad choice, just not my first, or fifth, or tenth...The only thing I really like about the 06, is the many other variants based off the case, that seem to do a particular thing better.

Does any use the old reliable 30-06 for Extreme or Long range hunting? How far have you been successful with it?

I really like this cartridge! I don't reload but I can find just about everything I need for variations of ammo to hunt with.

With the new powders, 60,000psi, a 26" barrel, and a bullet like the 190ABLR, which is very soft, I'll bet you could open some eyes, but it ain't, and never will be a 300RUM.
