I agree. But with having 3 stws I've accumulated a lot of brass lol.Great news for the STW guys, like I said I wouldn't build one until I had plenty of brass in hand.

The 26, 27, 28, 30, and 33 Nosler parent case is the .404 Jeffrey, just like the RUMs but shorter.I have a 30 nosler with a 26" Bartlein steel 11-1/4 T shooting 210 bergers at 3004 FPS. Useing retumbo 84 gns . And a 28 nosler with a23" barrel shooting the 195 Berger ELO at 2956. In a 8T USEING N570 THE NOSLERS ARE HUILD ON THE OLD 30-06 case but fatter
I mentioned case capacity in my post. If you compare load density vs powder vs velocity, it appears to me the 160-168 class bullets do well with Retumbo/IMR8133 burn rate powders. Going heavier - 180 class bullets - tips the desired burn rate in favor of slower powders (while Retumbo/IMR8133 burn rate powders work, they don't fill the case nearly as well as the next slower burn rate powders do).Thinking the 28 is too large does not make sense to me. I have a .338 RUM necked to 7mm. I run IMR7828 under HHT 132 in a 26" barrel. It runs over 3,600 fps.
I shoot the 175 Berger's in my 7PRC and are killing machines elk deer what ever they hit and they don't even move the hammers are a hard bullet they will go straight thru even if it's a rib bone so the begets wantOf the 3 I picked the 28 Nosler. Recently I too wanted to put together a larger 7mm but didn't want to dump a ton of money into the project. Currently I have the 280 Remington and the 7 saum. Have had and sold a few 7 Rem mags and a 7-300 Win mag. I ended up finding a discounted 28 Nosler in a Christensen Arms Ridgeline and added a few upgrades. Larger bolt knob, Manners PH stock pillars and bedded with Marine Tex, and a TS Custom lightweight muzzle brake. Just finished putting it together. With the Leupold 4.5-14x50 in weighs in at approximately 7lbs 12 ounces.View attachment 634531
I have a couple of friends that are shooting the 143 Hammer Hunter @ 3500 to 3600 fps with awesome results in accuracy and terminal performance. I think this is the direction I'm leaning for this project. I don't want to hassle with throating it longer for 195's which I feel is best for that bullet. I currently have a bunch of Berger 175 EH bullets. If I don't go with the 143 Hammer I'm thinking of making a go with the 175. Anyone else shooting either of these 2 Bullets? I'm thinking light and fast.

Not based on an 06 case.
