28n, 7rum, 7stw decisions (7rm falls far behind)

I have a 30 nosler with a 26" Bartlein steel 11-1/4 T shooting 210 bergers at 3004 FPS. Useing retumbo 84 gns . And a 28 nosler with a23" barrel shooting the 195 Berger ELO at 2956. In a 8T USEING N570 THE NOSLERS ARE HUILD ON THE OLD 30-06 case but fatter
The 26, 27, 28, 30, and 33 Nosler parent case is the .404 Jeffrey, just like the RUMs but shorter.

Not based on an 06 case.

28 Nos vs .30-06

Thinking the 28 is too large does not make sense to me. I have a .338 RUM necked to 7mm. I run IMR7828 under HHT 132 in a 26" barrel. It runs over 3,600 fps.
I mentioned case capacity in my post. If you compare load density vs powder vs velocity, it appears to me the 160-168 class bullets do well with Retumbo/IMR8133 burn rate powders. Going heavier - 180 class bullets - tips the desired burn rate in favor of slower powders (while Retumbo/IMR8133 burn rate powders work, they don't fill the case nearly as well as the next slower burn rate powders do).

The issue I see with the 28N, is the powder choices become more limited as you go up in bullet weight.

I've got a 28 Nosler and really like the gun/chambering.

My nod is for the 28N. I have one and it shot the 195's at 3030 and 3175 fps at 0.3 MOA. I wasn't smart and didn't baby it when I got it many moons ago but still got right around 550 rounds before the throat went south last year. Going to re-barrel it for the 28N again. That round is a hammer.
If I didn't have all of the equipment to reload it already, I would honestly build a 7-30SM. I like the case design of the 30SM. It has a tad less capacity, which would be good, and a longer neck. COAL looks to be about the same. I could never fill the case of the 28N when shooting the 180s or 195s. Plenty of components for the 300 PRC floating around also.

I was looking into the same rounds until I just decided I am going to re-barrel my REM 700 ADL 270 win into a 280AI this spring. I won't have to change the action and if I want to neck up 270 brass or neck down 30-06 brass I can. Pretty sure I am just going to purchase 280AI brass and develop my loads. Same .284 bullet and a great all around cartridge.
