284win vs 6.5 prc

Gotcha.
My 18" prc runs a 156 at 2820. 143 at 2925. 135 at 2985.

My 22" prc, 156 2920, 143 3040, 135 3100.

Just to give you an idea of what that cartridge can do in a short barrel. The 162 7mm is a great choice. I'd like to see a 160 6.5 but the only company making those used to be matrix. Good bc but didn't make a great hunting bullet in my opinion. It penciled on yotes.
What powder and grains are you getting with the 135's at 3100?

I just did opened my chamber up to AW2 spec and the 58 grains is running 3040 ish. 58.5 is back to 3100. I am going to test this further but 58.3 was 3078, 58.5 3100, 58.75 was 3094. I think 58.4-58.7 is going to the be load with the AW2 vs SAAMI

The 7 gives more bullet choices IF you reload and the 6.5 gets you there faster. While I've dismissed 7's until last year my heart has always been with 26cals. If your mag can get handloads out to (or within 3"), go 7. Many people I've talked to that shoot 7's use Berger 180's in various cartridges. IF you buy factory that can be the deciding factor! If you go prc, I'd choose 140's ir just the next heavier bullof your choice (depends on if you use hunting or target bullets for game). Why not just go saum as it's an efficient cartridge. I can't wait until I finish my AR's in 7-08 and 7saum (only 2 7's I own). I have thought about the 284win in an AR also over the 7-08. The rebate rim was the deciding factor of not moving forward in an AR for me. BA's could be better extraction wise?
