280ai which load for elk?

The 280 AI with those bullets at that velocity will just barely have enough retained energy at 600 yds to cleanly take a big bull elk. It can be done, but shot placement has to be perfect. Last year my hunting partner shot an hit a nice bull at over 500 yds with a 338 lapua but hit it 3 inches under the spine but above the vitals. We recovered that bull 3/4 of a mile away with another shot. If that first shot placement was 2 inches up or down, the bull would have been down.

I am partial to the accubonds, I dont shoot a 280 AI but my last 5 bulls and two cows have been harvested with 180 grn accubonds from a 300 win and they never went more than 40 yards. Shots between 80 and 250 yards.
