The 280 AI with those bullets at that velocity will just barely have enough retained energy at 600 yds to cleanly take a big bull elk. It can be done, but shot placement has to be perfect. Last year my hunting partner shot an hit a nice bull at over 500 yds with a 338 lapua but hit it 3 inches under the spine but above the vitals. We recovered that bull 3/4 of a mile away with another shot. If that first shot placement was 2 inches up or down, the bull would have been down.
