280 AI

I am also a PA whitetail hunter with a new 280 AI.
Have plans to work up two loads.
The first is almost done:
61g - 4831SC, Std large rifle primer, 145 Barnes LRX, 3050 fps. Best 4 shot group so far is 1.6" at 300 yards off of bags.
Shot 19 shots with 4 different seating depths with the above combo, and total diameter was just over 6" at 300 yards.

You certainly don't need near this much energy for a whitetail, but the gun seems to like speed.

2nd bullet I'm planning to try is a 139 LRX.

139g LRX we found easy to tune, with .050 off the lands. I do not talk about how easy this bullet is to tune, or I will never be able to find the bullets when they do come available.

IMR 4350, H4350, R#19 are money in the bank.

Thankfully I have a few boxes of 139 and 145 LRX bullets.
I also have a good bit of H4350. That was going to be my first powder to try with the Barnes 139 LRX.

I like 162 ELD-Ms for my 7mms. I have a 280 and a 7 SAUM currently. That bullet will take care of about anything for the most part, and the B.C. is high too in the winds. You should be able to get 2900FPS with your 280AI pretty easy out of a 26 inch barrel.

I went with the 140 AH in my new 280 AI with H100V. It has a 1-7.5" twist IBI at 23". This is getting me just over 3300 FPS. First year with this combo so no on game experience yet.

Did you try RL-23? I love it with the 162 eld
Did the RL19 shoot good? I have around 10 cans of it. I use it in my 280 rem. I was going to to buy some RL23. But should i try what i have first? 162gr to 175 gr. Since i cant find any berger 175gr elite hunter. I am going to use eld m 162 gr. 166 gr A Tip and may try the 168gr vld hunting bullets. What i have on hand.

I think you meant @Cfrey not me. I have never tried RL19.

If you have access to a 160-170 grn bullet give it a try- you may be impressed with what a bit more weight can do in a 1-8 or 9 twist

My gun has a 1@8 twist. I fount some 175 gr eld x bullets. There are blemish bullets 100 ct for 31.00. I am thinking about buying 200. Just to see how they group out of my rifle. I can always shoot hogs with them.

They should do really well in that twist - just back off the powder charge to start
