This is the highest pressure I have ever run to. Speed was inline with predictions but pressure was higher than expected.

Again a higher quality barrel would be faster and lower pressure.

In a 9 twist the 168 keyholes.

Hey Fred, I'm still waiting on my action unfortunately but I'm wondering if you've run any of the heavy Bergers in your 28.

I'm curious what sort of speeds/accuracy might be possible with the 180gr and new 195gr.


On another note...
I've run the numbers for recoil, and it appears the 180gr at 3200FPS (88gr of RL33) will be pretty brutal without a muzzle brake (43ft-lbs in 8.5lb rifle). That's in 300 Ultra territory! Does that seem accurate to you?

With my 24" barrel and H1000 I didn't make 3200fps with JLK 180 VLDs.

I didn't have RL-33 them. I do now but haven't had time to run them again.

On testing some had sub MOA groups with 7 shots with 7 charges 1 grain apart. I don't think this thing is "sensitive".

My gun liked the 180s pretty well. I had the Matrix 195s and they were fast enough. I didn't try any Bergers yet.

Interesting that you said a 1:9 twist wouldn't stabilize the 168's.

I was looking through your COAL measurements you provided. If I will be using an AI mag with max length of 3.625, it seems like I could still mag feed with the heavy 7mm bullets...

I don't have a magnum rifle yet. I was leaning towards the 7mm Rem Mag or the 300 Win Mag because they are the best supported in the market today (and probably for a long time going forward). But obviously this 28 Nosler has caught my eye also.

Barnes 168 LRX is 1.592 long
Berger 180 VLD is 1.525
The JLK 180 VLD is 1.52
Berger 195 is 1.648

I don't understand why the LRX didn't stabilize in a 9 twist.

Matrix 190s were fine.

I haven't got and any 195s to try in a 9 twist.

I am pretty enamored with the idea of getting the 195's over 3000-3100. I already have a 7LRM, but don't think you can get past ~2850-2900 with the 195's with it.

Going to throw out the question: Any benefit to going to a 7 RUM over the 28 Nosler specifically for the 195 gr Bergers?

I am currently in the process of load work up for this 28 Nosler. It's a Christensen arms Summit steel with integrated rail. Very impressed with the accuracy of this 1in 9" twist CA made barrel. So far I am 3110 fps with 180 gr. Berger hunting vld. Using 76.1 gr. RL 26 and a coal =3.500" no significant pressure signs, and seems to duplicate velocities frequently. Very impressed with the whole set up.

Note that Ryan isn't using a factory throat, but he's getting 3150 fps with RL 33 pushing that new 195gr Berger and getting very consistent grouping at range. I've been a reader of this sites threads for years, although I just became a registered member recently. I stumbled upon Ryan's thread while researching the .28 Nosler and after reading reviews of his work and results of this customized .28's potential I ordered one. It will be my first custom rifle and I am super excited to receive it. Ryan has been a pleasure to deal with I will post my results once I put some rounds through it.
