Carbon Ring with Zero pressure signs, just barrel break in and low round count?
Have you seen this? I have never had a problem with Carbon rings in the past 45 years so knowledge is only second hand.
Yes I have had it in a couple of new rifles around 200 rounds it's pretty common if you you shoot a lot ,lot of my friends and gun smiths have had the same problem I learned the hard way about it

A few pics of the chamber. I don't see a carbon ring here, unless I'm missing something. Thoughts? I will scrub the bore and see what post pic looks like. Fire cracking seems worse than I'd hoped even for this cartridge after 142 rounds. Will pause more than I have been while at range sessions, although I have not been shooting more that 5 in a string before cooling. Pic 1 is with a new unfired case in chamber. Pic 2 is with a 2x fired case. Pic 3 is with mirror removed looking straight down bore. The lack of pressure signs is a bit confusing.

Take you a bore mop and soak it with Seafoam over night

Well had some success ridding it. Chased down a few other rabbit holes and going down the Seafoam one! I use it on a lot of things, so why not a bore. I'm still reluctant to believe that a modest carbon ring that did not result in pressure signs is responsible for groups opening and poi shift. Pulled action and verified all my bedding is good, no deviation on a dial indicator as action screws are loosened. But have to try something. Next will be trying another scope. Thanks for helping a guy out Tommy.

JB grey… I have the oatmeal brown stuff and pink bore shine. Have lots of Brownells lapping compound 600 and 800. This isn't going to be a range gun, but it's a good setup. Once it's shooting minute of elk at 800 it won't see much range time. Just wanted something lighter. I'm hoping the barrel Choice wasn't a mistake, and I read good reviews on much heavier hitting 338 Lapuas on Carbon6 as well. Will let ya know how it shoot's tomorrow. Thanks again.
