.28 Nosler Brass question

If it's like the rest of there brass I wont use it.
Why have a Corvette and have to throttle it back to a VW bug because of primer pockets.

I'm sure some brass is better than others and I'm not familiar with ADG but in the past my problems with brass even Norma brass has been because I pushed past the recommended max load. But I bought the 28 Nos because I feel I can keep the load moderate, pressure wise and get the velocities I want thus saving the brass, hopefully anyway. I don't have a 338 L rifle but I loaded rounds for a friends gun and thought the brass was high but it's even worse with the 28 N. Right now finding even once fired 28 nos is difficult if not impossible. But then again I will keep my shots under 800 yards and planning on using the 143 gn hammer hunter bullets. Per a post i read I "May" be able to run them around 3600 FPS with Retumbo (see huntemhigh's post:http://hammerbullets.boards.net/thread/176/28-nosler ) but we'll see on that as I can't verify those same numbers yet on my own rifle as I'm waiting for componets etc.

I am aware of brass manufacture promises for new cartridges and not showing up. ADG was supposed to come out with 7 saum last summer.... I have there brass in 338 edge and it's amazing brass. If you use the google machine there is a guy who did a write up on converting 7 RUM to 28 Nosler. I used 300 RUM ADG brass and it took about 2 minutes a case. The ADG brass is far tougher than Nosler. Same FPS with both and ejector marks on Nosler and clean as a bird with ADG.

I just used a standard type s bushing die. Trimmed it. Very light sizing wasn't. Size a little and pull back and spin case. From spring back the shoulder will be about .008 longer than Nosler brass so you will need to change she'll homders or screw the die down more. Using a trimmer on a drill would take a while. You trim almost all of the neck off. I used a portable band saw and then used my trimmer to square it up. Then trimmer the extra .020-.030 off after sizing with the trimmer.

Thanks again Rhovee. That sounds promising. I had ordered 25 once fired 7 RUM brass which arrived today and was comparing it to 28 Nosler.
I have never tried to form a brass case. You say it took 2 minutes to form the 300 Run to 28. What is the exact process. I assume you used the Redding forming die pictured above? Here is a pic of my new rifle. Don't know if I mentioned it but it's the Browning X-bolt Hells Canyon Speed with a 9 twist. One reason I got it was weight, trying to ligher and it weighs 6lb 10 oz. I was thinking to get the "Long Range"

Put in shell holder and press firmly. Every press 1" Or less pull the brass back out and rotate it. Check the case length at the datum line with the Hornady headspace guage. I have to dial down my sizing die to overcome spring back. I used my normal sizing die. Not a brass forming die. Just take it slow and you'll figure it out. After it's formed trip to virgin brass length.

Hey buddy I gave it a try per your instructions but ruined 2 cases. I only have a FL Sizing die and can't imagine a different outcome using it. I could maybe see a body die or Neck bushing die working minus the bushing but not FL sizing die. I don't know if it makes any difference but it's Remington 7 MM Rum brass?
I have made hundreds of 28N from 338RUM if your going to try with just one die and used brass your going to have a high lost rate. it takes 3 dies to do right
338RUM die with bottom cut off or 33N die adjusted properly
300 RUM or30N same as above
28N die

If you get Bullberrys double ended forming die that would be your cheapest way probably
I have made probably 1200 - 20VT and 20SCC from 223 and 800 17 Badger brass from straight wall 30 carbine. I cant remember for sure but I think there like 60.00 each. and you can use them for any cartridge that has the same dimensions instead of a one off die.
I would suggest you call them and tell them what your trying to do.

I am able to get 3,613 fps from my 28 Nosler with Hammer 143gn and N570.
28 nosler brass available from powder valley, Bertram also will have some available soon. ADG is testing, Peterson is in process of getting something to the market as well. More options coming. The ADG 7saum will be on market very soon, saw photos of it online already.
