28 nosler 175 eldx

I have a similar link to another calculator somewhere in my list but thanks for the link here. I had to google a few of my bullet lengths but I'm in the green as expected. Thanks JMG...

Happy to help
Really - out to 900 yards in that caliber, you could probably shoot nearly anything with any twist and it would be ok. I havent looked up the data, my bet would be with a 9 twist and a 175 grain bullet of any manufacture, it would be stable into the 1500 + yard range

Thank you for the info.. I am leaning towards the 175 eldx or the 175 Berger elite hunter. My gun smith says the 180 Berger's work really good in his 28

That caliber can run almost anything, you just have to find out what your barrel likes. Ask your smith what reamer he used and what his customers have gotten results with as well. If you want to maximize case capacity staying in the 175 grain range is likely correct - due to mag length limitations of SAAMI built rifles. If you want to maximize BC, then moving up to the 195 is a good move, given the powder capacity you will still have with 80-90% case fill.
Again, find out what your barrel likes and go from there.

If I had a 28N, I wouldn't go anything slower than 1:8.5 twist.

If course, I'm being a little reactive to the fact that my 7RM has more horsepower than its 1:9.5 twist barrel can easily stabilize. You might be happy with 1:9, I just know I would probably tighten it up a little, if it was me.

do you feel the 28 nosler is on a par with any 30 caliber magnus short of a 30 on the 378 weatherby type for deer to the moose animals out to the longr
er ranges of 800 yards or so?

The terrain I was hunting moose in was wide open fields with some tree bluffs. I expected shots to either be really close or intermediate. I was worried about shooting a bigger animal at close range with this bullet and ended up shooting my Moose at about 30 yards in a tree bluff. Did not get as much penetration as anticipated. Sample size of one.
