270 WSM

Don't know how to post photo here but been my caliber no.1 since I started hunting. Have 300WSM as well and as most of you noticed there is no difference once you send good bonded or solid round where it counts.
Sako 85 and now in a process of getting it in the new carbon fiber stock and putting a muzzle brake on it...
Buddy of mine redesigned his 270 Bavarian into nice gig and sure enough with that two stage set trigger shoots MOA at 400yd range with factory Hotnady ELDX ammo...
Love 270WSM and for any North American game other than maybe big bears have no need for anything more.

270WSM is my go to caliber for hunting out of Wisconsin.I have mine in a Tikka T3 Lite sitting in a McMillan Sako Hunter edge fill stock.I use 140 grain Bergers over Magnum powder for everything including Elk and bear.

I found it could do most of what the 30-06 can do with a bit more velocity and a lighter bullet.

DUH!! Put a lighter bullet in the 30-06 and where will the velocity go??

If worried about the ballistics, put a 130 gr Cutting Edge MTH in it and let it go. The G1 BC is 0.400 with that one and it is a killer.

Lighting in my home office was bad last night. Here's my Tikka T3X in 270 WSM with the side discharge brake.

Wonderman4: Let me clarify my statement. When I said "lighter bullet", I meant lighter than one might shoot in a 30-06. My 150 grain bullet has a G1 BC of .499 and shoots 1/3 MOA in my Winchester Featherweight 270 WSM. And I'm really happy with its performance on game. So, no I don't want to give that up for a 130 with BC of 0.400. I'm not worried about trajectory too much since I have my holdovers already worked out exactly with my 150 grainers.

Love my 270 WSM's... Kimber Montana and a Browning Ti
Unless you step up to a 270 Weatherby Magnum I think it's the best WSM factory offering. The others 7mm/300 almost match their predecessors.

I was just ribbing a little due to an unclear statement.

In order to match the approximate BC of your 150 gr 270 bullet, I go to the 165 gr MTH cutting Edge (G1 BC @ 0.510)

I have a load using Win Staball that gets real close to 3000 fps near max load. It is very accurate at ranges to 500 yds. That is the furthest I have shot it since long ranges are few and far between down this way.

More so, I agree that the 270 WSM is a hell of a cartridge in the right gun with the right bullets.

Just wanted to add that for awhile we were not able to get bullets from Matrix in Canada(some trade law) and I just found out yesterday that we can now order from them here in the U.S.A. They also offer a 175 in .277!

Is there an extensive thread on reloading the 270 WSM? I purchased a set of Redding competition dies on another forum, looking to get started reloading for the new rifle, it shoots the Federal Fusion 150gr like the attached picture. I would like to shoot the heaviest bullet possible and then have a Model 7 built in 270 WSM with the data gleaned from reloading.
