270 wsm 165gr Matrix data

I'm currently shooting 150 bergers at about 2970fps. What would be the significant benefits of shooting the matrix 165's compared to the bergers. Keep in mind this is mainly a hunting rig, thanks. Also is it worth working with the rl19?

If you can push the 165 Matrix at the same velocity your gaining over .100 BC for free, the Matrix are easier to get a load for, and easy to get. Boils down to more energy with less wind drift and higher impact velocity farther out, all good for hunting.

I would think R19 is way to fast but I've never loaded it, I would try it but not waste much time if it isn't showing good stuff early.

In response to the thread hi-jack; you are correct and I appolagize for that. I thought the same exact thing AFTER I wrote it. I will try a new thread. Thanx for all the existing info on the 270wsm.

I was hoping you guys could provide me with a list of powders that would possibly work with the 165's. So when i make a trip to my local shop i can shop around. Thanks

Isn't 4831sc a slow buring powder?

H 4831 is a med-slow powder in my 270 wsm. It is best behind a lighter bullet, like 130 g.
It is very accurate with a 135 smk and very consistent, but not very high velocities.
I suppose it will work behind a 165 grainer, but at 2500 to 2600 fps.
A slower powder like Magnum will push the heavy bullets better/ faster.

just my 2 cents.

My bad. I was under the understanding that 4831 was one of the slowest burners out there. It sounds like that isn't the case. I'm most familiar with Hogdens powders.

Any updates on the .277 matrix? Any good loads, bad loads etc.. ? I'm gonna start loading up some 165gr with some h1000 to test when weather gets better.
