30-35yrs ago, when I first started this reloading and LR thing, the .270 Winchester was the standard by which most cartridges were measured against and compared to for Long Range ballistics!
Sure you had the 7mmRemMag and .30WinMag, and both outperformed the .270, but if a cartridge was being evaluated there was a .270 thrown in for comparison.
I shot one for years, killed a lot of deer with it and have recently acquired another. The only thing the .270 ever lacked was the availability of better bullets and a longer barrel.
