270 win vs 280 ai

I just called Douglas and had them do 26" 270 AI XX SS heavy sporter 9 twist 11o crown.

Will 160gr or heavier stabalize in a 9 twist?

Great idea, i made my favorite 270 into an AI A FEW YEARS AGO AND I COULDNT BE HAPPIER. i use the cutting edge 130s and the nos LRAB in 150 at 3200 fps.

Has anyone tried Nosler LR 150 gr . Bullet length is 1.39" and supposed G1 of .625!
They get bad reviews on terminal ballistic on game though as reviewed on Midway's website. (I put a lot of emphasis on bullet placement.)

Yes i have and both my 6x5 Colorado elk and my Mule deer absolutely hated that bullet. I on the other hand was very impressed.

I posted a recovered bullet from the off shoulder of the elk i will use themin this rifle this year too!

So parts of my scheme may be a no go? I still think the seater die and NS will work.
I could try it and see if it works . Also depends on my actual 270ai chamber when get them fireformed. I cant find specs or reamer prints of 270 ai ANYWHERE!

The lee collet ns 270 die is the easiest choice. I use that set up on my 375ai

150gr at 3200 from 270ai? Must be using 7828 or rl22. What was your accuracy load? Magnum primers I bet?

I believe you can use the lee collet ns die in 270 for the ai. It is the most economical way to do it. I learned that AFTER i bought the expensive redding sets for two ai calibers!

Got my barrel back from Douglas Friday. My 270win. collet and seater dies work perfectly on the AI. Lee 280ai FL die will work without the expander but I have to hone the neck .004" and cut the die back .010 or the shell holder.

My build has been completed for long enough to give an update on load development.

The barrel is Douglass XX SS 26" magnum sporter contour on a Vanguard action and B&C stock.
A little disappointed with Douglass because there are a few reamer marks in the chamber and I asked for a 1:9 but they sent a 1:10 twist so no surprisingly I'm having better luck with 140 vld than 150s.
This barrel was pretty picky on what powder it likes. Imr 7828ssc is going to get more attention but it's usual diet is h4831sc.

The target pics are at 200 yards but the groups look much more impressive at 100yards. Overall im getting 175 to 200 fps over my original factory 24" 270 win barrel with better precision. ( Royinidaho would be proud:D).
Not BR match precision but I'm always trying to improve my loads.

My new favorite loas is the nosler lrabs in 150 with 62 gr of rl 19

That is my max load so use common sense in testing on your rifle. This load is a curate and has taken an elk and two nice mule deer. I have sbot it in a local practical rifle shoot out to 900 yards.

I also had gooduck with the cutting edge 130grs, but although i aleays used the 140gr in my standard 270, it has been surpassed by the 150s

Yeah man, I read your entries on Reloaders nest so I tried Rl19 but i must have a really fast burning lot of 19 because i blew primers before I could reach h4831 velocities.
The powders that worked out the best happened to be at about 100% case density.
Retumbo did decent with 150s but rather slow.
Also I'm a little short on free bore with Douglass's reamer so maybe when i get some erosion i can have better luck with 150s.
