270 win velocity question?

Here is an Argentine 98 Mauser that loves 130 gr Sierras at 58.0 gr of Re22, 3100 fps. Good hunting load for family and friends. My grandaughter popped her deer last year with this at 275 yards. For that shot we were using Barnes factory ammo in 270 130 grains, but the Shilen barrel spits both rounds at almost the same POI.

3.790 OAL?

I needed to load some rounds for my 270 Rem 700 mountain rifle, 22" barrel. Been shooting 130g Speer lately but have some 130g Barnes tsx and ttsx as well as some Nosler 130g BT. In the past I have used the Hornady 140g BT and have a box of those on the shelf. I already had an established load for the Hornady bullets so I loaded up some of those to see if they still shoot. The load: 59g of RL22, cci200, seated .030 off lands with a length of 2.795 using the Hornady comparator. Velocity on my chrono was 3150-does that seem true? That's my question, could that be the actual velocity? Other loads I shot at same time and with same chrono setup were same 140g bullet with IMR 7828 at 58 2885-2900fps 3 shots and 58.5 grains with vel of 2950-2990 130g Barnes TSX using IMR 4831@56grains for velocity of 2995-3010 4 shots, and [email protected] grains with velocity 2950-3000 5 shots(but only 2 registered on the chrono).

The 3150 velocity repeated at the end of the session-I shot 3 rounds first and at end shot 3 more with same velocity so it's consistant.

Just my two cents worth on 270 loads. In the 1970s we used to load 61 grains of IMR4831 with a CCI magnum primer and got great accuracy from a Remington 700 BDL and a Ruger M77. Mostly used 130 Hornadys for target and deer. Nosler partition in 130 for a couple of "no kill" elk hunts. Didn't have access or own a chronograph back then.

Yes, with the 1" for the Hornady gage. I was wondering how long it would take someone to catch it, lol....
I use to record it with the 1" for years. Not anymore. After all it's a reference number. But yeah 2.790 to the ogive "with gage" made by Hornady. See, you're paying attention!
Thought maybe bad penmanship, my writing isn't the best sometimes and some stuff will look wrong. Not sure that would even fit the magazine.

Jack didn't have the great powders we have now either .today the factory 270"s are down loaded, it made it Reputation with a 130's doing 3140/3160 fps . Philward, nice shooting RL/22 edged out imr 7828 both in speed n accuracy , good on you , your 26 inch bbl will gain 25 fps per inch of bbl over a 22 inch bbl Or a 24 inch bbl , cheers !.
I have tried a lot of the new powders and bullets and none come close in accuracy and gain some speed. Now this is my stock 700 with the only thing done was to lighten the trigger.I have taken Pronghorn out to 400 yards I have been shooting long enough to know some guns just like a certain load.I got lucky to match up gun ,powder and bullet with a 22 inch barrel.I wish it was that easy with my other guns

Dang. 60g h4831. I suspect faulty case since the other 2 rounds shot fine. This one was a flyer but other 2 were right together. With 130g Barnes tsx.

I think you are fine, I've been using re 22 since it hit the store shelf, in several calibers using published data from the handloader magzine produced over 3200 fps out of a 24 inch barrel with 120 gr nosler, shot that load in sub zero temp to well over hundred, no problems as for the chrono been using one of those since they first not the shelf, I'm on my fourth, ( but I only shot one of them ) as well as several of the more expensive competition brands usually shooting thru both at the same time, never had a deveation problem that I would get excited over, a good practice to get in the habit of, I use match ammo but it does need to be, but I purchased a brick of 22 match ammo that I use as a standard, if you feel something is amiss, use your standard test ammo to verify.

Sounds like you've worked up a great
270 Win. load for sure .

Just remember one thing about Cronoy's. There are those who have shot there chronographs and those who will, its just a matter of time. Don't ask how I know. My 270 Win Featherweight only shoots one hand load at 1/2" MOA, I just don't know how fast.
