.270 Win 127 gr. Lehigh Controlled Chaos and StaBALL 6.5

Hi y'all. I'm looking at loading up my .270 Win with 127 gr. Lehigh Controlled Chaos and Winchester StaBALL 6.5. Lehigh doesn't have load data for StaBALL, and after reaching out to them they recommend looking at a lead bullet between 145-150 grains and using that starting data. Hodgdon lists a starting load for 150 grain Hornady SP at 48.2 grains, so I figure I'll start there. Anyone have any experience with this bullet and powder? Any suggestions for working up a starting load?

Perhaps slightly unrelated, but how important is using a chronograph with load workup? I don't have one, but I'll have everything else. I figure I'll just keep watch for pressure signs and look at how accuracy changes with loads.

So far in my loading of staball its not consistent until you get near max, so dont be surprised if you get some squirrelly velocity's at first with low charges. It gets sweet near max.
