264 win mag for elk?

heck, a .22lr will take one out so why wouldn't a .264... but you can beat .308 diameter holes irregardless of what casing put them there...

Real good groups with the 130 gr accubonds, good with the140 SSTs and looking to test the 143 grain eld-x's again out of my 1:9 twist barrel. I found improved accuracy at 20 thousandths off the lands so I am going to give it a go with that on the 140s. 130/140 nosler accubonds hard to find right now...

Way back in the 60's - I had a buddy who not only hunted Elk with the trusty .264 - but he shot 1,000 yard targets. Now - he was a big guy - and it can kick a bit - but will do the job for sure.

Just like the title says is it a good choice. I know there are better bigger options but this is my rifle I am most familiar with.

Same as any other round. Put the bullet where it is supposed to be. They used to shoot giant bucks with a 32-20 lever action. You'll have plenty of gun.

the best group I had was the 130 accubonds at less than 1/2" at 100 yards (upper left on attached pic), the 140 SSTs are generally under 1" and the 143 gr eld-x's have been all over the place. Going to try another powder and closer to lands with them. Also, the 140 gr partitions group about MOA with this rifle.

I can confirm that. My dad let me use his 32-20 Octagonal barrel Win 1892 ,model. and I shot a few deer with it.

I would not even consider the 156 Berger with a 1:9" twist. Berger states "1:8" minimum", minimum being key. There is a difference between "minimum" and "optimal". I run a 1:7.5" for the 156 in two rifles, and they are accurate as heck a LONG ways out there.

With a 1:9", I would be loading a 130-135 at blistering speeds. But, I would also not shoot this combo for elk. Deer and pronghorn slayer though.

Just my opinion.

Lol, spot on! Ive seen my dsughter kill lots of game elk size, with a 260 rem and barnes tsx bullets. Shoots through both shoulders of zebra, kudu, wildebeast, gemsbok and even eland.

That's the easy button, but in this day and age lots of people choose to make this stuff rocket science
