I have a .260 Rem in Sako 85...got it before the big CM push. It is a 1:8 twist 22 in barrel and I get 2820 with a 142 gr Nosler Accubond LR and 44 grs RL 19, Lapua brass and CCI BR-2 primers, It is a tack driver...there is not a 6.5 CM I've seen in person that shoots better. My son has a Fierce CT Carbon Edge 6.5 CM he reloads 142 gr Nos ABLR in it with 41.5 grs of RL-17...it shoots one hole and runs at 2700 in a 20" barrel. My biz partner has a Fierce CT Carbon Edge in 6.5 CM also 20" barrel and runs the factory Superformance 143 gr, Hndy ELD-X. While it is also a tack driver I think the 2480 Fps it gets is a tad anemeic for what a 6.5 can do. So IMO target and competition shooting, deer hunting or if you don't reload, 6.5 CM. Bigger game hunting and if you're a reloader, .260 Remington. By the way for the Remy haters (I don't have one but I have shot a good many and load for a good many), you realize nearly all issue sniper rifles for US military are built on a rem 700 actions...soooo, there's that.
